The only reason this could be a good deal is that, based on past experience, the tablet might come unlocked. YMMV

Not worth it, even at this low price.
The screen tech is undoubtedly interesting, but the device is very slow, and the display has major issues: very noticeable light bleed all around the edges, moving inward about an inch and severe brightness issues.
Even with auto-brightness turned off, the tablet constantly adjusts brightness on its own. In some apps it dims so aggressively the screen literally goes black, again, this is with auto-brightness off.
I've gone through all the settings, did a factory reset, etc. Same behavior every time.
Read reports of similar issues with TCL devices using this screen tech.

The nextpaper modes are sort of gimmicky. It sounds cool and the matte effect is interesting, but in reality you end up just using the full color mode all the time anyway. I do like the matte screen as it helps with glare and reflections. I also really like the size as it is pretty lightweight. I put a pop socket on the back to facilitate one-handed holding and it works great. I couldn't find a case that I liked that was also super slim, so I got a sleeve pouch/case instead. And to prop it on an angle on a table I had a little phone kickstand lying around that works fine for that purpose.
My main gripes are the bloatware it comes with. Even if you disable them (you can't delete them), on reboot the apps reactivate and download themselves again. So now I am in the habit of putting it into airplane mode on shutdown, then on the next reboot go into the Settings > Apps and Disable the suspect apps so they don't auto launch in the background.
For $85 I'd say it's worth it if your performance expectations are relatively low and you are just looking for a tablet for media consumption and basic tasks.
