Loperamide hydrochloride (Imodium) is packaged in blister packs—rather than bottles—to curb abuse and prevent severe cardiac issues, including death, associated with exceeding the recommended dose. The FDA mandated this unit-dose packaging to limit the total amount of medication available, as high doses can cause fatal heart problems. Blister packs are designed to discourage ingestion of massive, unsafe doses.
