I'm torn on this one. Definitely better than the no-name Chinese ones often posted here and though it's a quality Japanese steel alloy, it's made by Hangzhou Great Star Industrial Co in China.

I was going to point out the same. Jorgensen was a longtime American company dating back to 1903, where the company was started by a Danish-American (named Jorgensen) and his business partners. It was acquired by Great Star of China in 2017, just like Great Star acquired SK Tools, which was located in PA. Oh, and Great Star also acquired the American company, ShopVac, as well (both ShopVac and SK Tools were located in Williamsport, PA). To be fair, it's a nice looking pull saw, but at this price, I'd definitely prefer one that was Made in Japan. Btw, don't Japanese style pull saws typically have teeth on both sides of the blade?

"Ryoba" saws have teeth on both sides. They are a great value since one saw can legitimately do both rip and crosscut. I have several.

They do make me nervous. Having teeth on both sides does make it that much easier to injure yourself if you are a bit tired or distracted. And they are harder to transport a well due to being 2 sided. All that being said, I still use my Ryobas the most.

I may butcher these generalizations, but I'll give it a shot ...
  • Ryobas are have their obvious benefits. But their extra teeth can make longer cuts less clean or more difficult. If the cut is deep enough, the backside teeth come in contact with the wood and add friction.
  • Katabas are best for long/deep cuts. And these are better suited towards different blade or handle shapes since they don't need to function on both sides.
  • Dozuki saws are "back saws", meaning they have a ridged spin. This gives more control over you cuts. But the thick spine prevents you from cutting very deep. These saws are used for joinery where precision really matters, like cutting dovetails.
