Dental Injuries: Because nylon is a hard, synthetic plastic, aggressive chewing can cause painful chips, cracks, or "slab fractures," particularly in the carnassial teeth. This risk is higher for older dogs with compromised tooth strength.
Ingestion and Blockages: Standard nylon toys are not edible. If a dog swallows large chunks or sharp splinters, it can lead to choking or life-threatening gastrointestinal obstructions requiring surgery.
Gum Irritation: After heavy use, nylon can become bristly and sharp, leading to gum irritation or bleeding. These rough edges can be smoothed down with a wood file or heavy-grit sandpaper to extend the toy's safe use.
Microplastics: Chewing on nylon toys creates microscopic plastic fragments that can be ingested and accumulate in a dog's body over time.

They are better than antlers. What do you suggest?

While nylon might not be perfect, it's better than the cat poop my dogs favor.

I have a pitty that is a super chewer that destroys every toy I have given him in minutes, except this one. I do shave the sharp bits he scrapes up as it cuts his gums otherwise, and I would like to limit the amount of nylon he ingests. Definitely the toughest toy I have purchased to date for him.

If people still want to use, smoothing via wire wheel on drill is much easier than sandpaper.
