my router shouldn't require connections to the manufacturer, and they shouldn't have the ability to remotely brick it.

It Works
Reverse Engineering/ Red-Team
Easier than getting the components/chips or setting up foundries/fabs to roll indigenous silicon
Edit: I actually think the bigger draw is that Ubiquiti generally doesn't monetize the software or require subscription schemes. Same as the rest of us.

I almost drove to microcenter tomorrow just to get it at $50 off but now i'll wait and see what other 2.5gbps options come out.

I've been eyeballing this switch for the better part of a year now but keep holding off because the power supply attachment that allows it to fit in a full width rack was always out of stock. I never paid much attention to the ports since I figured all ports were 2.5gbps. Your post made me look twice and sure enough, only 4 ports are 2.5gbps, the rest are 1gbps.

I regretted getting my ProMax 24 Poe switch. Because i ran out of 2.5 ports quickly. And ended up grabbing a Pro XG switch so had more ports. Plus the 2.5 AP's don't really have enough bandwidth for more than 1 device with wifi 7 MLO so a 10Gb AP is a much better option. Not that you need to 5Gb on your phone.

If you consider that a source of legitimate information, you're a complete and utter moron.
