1) They don't sell battery packs separately. If you want 2 controllers and just one dock, for example, you'd have to buy 2 docks. If the batteries wear out over time, your only official option for replacements is to buy a new dock. And the docks are way too expensive when not on sale. (I say "official" since I'm guessing there are compatible battery packs somewhere. But I had trouble finding any online.)
2) There isn't a way to charge them without the dock. This is a problem if you travel with a controller. The easy answer is "just use AA's when you travel." But that means remembering to bring the original battery cover with you. It's just one more thing to think about.
After several years, I've switched to the PowerA dual chargers. They aren't quite as nice as these Razer stands. The Razer stands do seem to work a little better. But the dual stands are nice when dealing with 4+ controllers. PowerA sells battery packs separately. And lastly, PowerA sells compatible battery packs with USB-C inputs. That way I can use the charging docks at home, and fall back to USB-C as needed.
All that being said, these docks are a nice luxury. If you want the absolute best value, use good rechargeable AA's like Eneloops. If you want a cheaper, more straightforward docking solution, PowerA is probably a better choice. If you want a dock that looks the nicest and works the best, then this Razer stand is great. All of this is just my $.02.
