What exactly do you think one would "struggle to run" at 8gb? The minimum RAM to run Windows 11 is 4GB. 8GB isn't IDEAL but, again, is fine for a budget PC. It's not going to be a significant bottleneck with these specs.

8GB is a reasonable amount of RAM for a computer at this price point with these specs. 8Gb is fine for the basic tasks this is spec'd for.

Apparently you think people are buying sub-$200 laptops to do 3D modeling and run massive, highly complex spreadsheets. These are perfectly reasonably specs for a laptop at this price point, and it'll work just fine for most people who just browse, watch some videos, and type the occasional document. The web browser is a far bigger RAM hog than any OS, anyway. Windows 11 is hot garbage but this laptop will run it just fine with 8GB RAM, and it'll be easy to install Linux on it if one chooses to do so.

W11 with chris titus tool custom install and debloated using recommended settings uses no more than about 3-3.5gb of RAM. For basic tasks like boomer emails, documents, surfing, youtube there won't be an issue even if you go over 8gb a little and pagefile to the nvme.

Do not buy. With the reality of ram and nvme prices, manufacturers can grab them cheaper than us. Pay the premium for 16gb and 512gb minimum.

If Android phones have 256gb and 512gb, then your laptop should have 1tb.

Sure it's a decent deal, but that ram is insane...8gb? It will barely be able to run windows 11, 16gb is the new minimum, and with ram prices these days, you're better off paying a little more for something with 16gb
Wrong.

Wow you sure swing a big stick.

Ordering others you know nothing about not to buy something.
Deciding for them what RAM and storage they need or want.
Deciding for them what they should spend on a laptop.

Seriously?

Would there be any issues downgrading this to Windows 10? How long would the battery life last? Is the battery replaceable? Thanks!
You can install Windows 10 on any Windows 11 device. In this case, the Windows 11 Home license will activate a Windows 10 Home installation.
The biggest issue might be the drivers. While Windows 11 drivers aren't listed as Windows 10 compatible, it only means that they didn't test it on Windows 10. In my experience it doesn't matter. Windows 11 and 10 share the same driver engine. If you can extract the raw drivers, Windows 10 should be able to install them manually through the Device Manager.
Windows Update however won't download and install the drivers automatically if they're only listed as Windows 11. So you have to download from the manufacturer and there is no Gateway website I can find. Acer now owns the Gateway brand and inputing that listed model number gives you nothing.

This product's display has a 120Hz refresh rate. And if you're lucky, you might get an upgraded version with the 5675U processor instead of the 5500U. How do I know? Because I bought it. It's a very good product, so I recommend it.

Completely wrong. If you know what you're doing Windows 11 de-bloated runs on 8gb with an SSD Drive great for basic tasks -- office and web browsing.

How do I know? Im running exactly this on a 10 year old i5 with 8gb. a clean install after a drive wipe runs Windows 11 beautifully (Rufus helps build a clean install USB).
Any tips on debloating? I have tried uninstalling certain RAM hogs but Windows doesn't allow me to uninstall or disable….not a computer savant so also don't want to accidentally disable needed programs. Any tips/websites/programs would be very much appreciated bc I know there are others in the "short" boat next to me

These two are fabulous. However start with erasing drive and reinstall windows from scratch Rufus tool will create an installer usb drive for you
