What exactly do you think one would "struggle to run" at 8gb? The minimum RAM to run Windows 11 is 4GB. 8GB isn't IDEAL but, again, is fine for a budget PC. It's not going to be a significant bottleneck with these specs.

8GB is a reasonable amount of RAM for a computer at this price point with these specs. 8Gb is fine for the basic tasks this is spec'd for.

Apparently you think people are buying sub-$200 laptops to do 3D modeling and run massive, highly complex spreadsheets. These are perfectly reasonably specs for a laptop at this price point, and it'll work just fine for most people who just browse, watch some videos, and type the occasional document. The web browser is a far bigger RAM hog than any OS, anyway. Windows 11 is hot garbage but this laptop will run it just fine with 8GB RAM, and it'll be easy to install Linux on it if one chooses to do so.

My own review of this product
Pros:
1. If you're lucky, you might get an upgraded 5675u CPU.
2. Type-C PD charging is supported.
3. Equipped with a vivid 17.3 inch IPS display with a 120Hz refresh rate.
4. Large battery capacity (75.01Wh).
5. CPU cooling solution with two heatpipes.
6. Quad speakers.
7. Two RAM slots.
8. Fingerprint recognition possible
9. Equipped with a backlit keyboard
Cons:
1. The display color gamut is low at 63% sRGB.
2. The built-in SSD is an M.2 SATA, so it's roughly 500MB/s (can be replaced with an NVME SSD).
3. The default CPU fan speed is a bit high (adjusting it with the Ryzen control program is recommended).
4. Supports Wi-Fi 5, but the maximum speed is low at 433Mbps.
5. No dedicated Windows support program for Gateway.

According to the listing, they only had 115 to sell. I managed to get one and according to the tracking it should be here today.

Gateway still exists, go figure.
They were gone but they resurfaced, sort of, according to Wikipedia:
"In August 2007, Acer Inc. of Taiwan announced the acquisition of Gateway, Inc., for a US$710 million tender offer. The acquisition was finalized in October 2007. In the interim, MPC Corporation announced that it had signed a deal to acquire Gateway's Professional Services Unit—which manufactured and designed the company's servers, network-attached storage devices, and workstations—for approximately $90 million. This MPC deal was also finalized in October 2007.
Following the acquisition, Acer used both Gateway and eMachines as sub-brands for several years. Many of Acer's most popular lines of personal computers, including netbooks, were rebadged as Gateway machines for midrange consumers, while the eMachines line was kept for budget consumers. In 2013, the company discontinued the eMachines brand, citing the proliferation of tablet computers and 2-in-1 laptops among the low‑end computer market. They continued selling computers under the Gateway and Packard Bell brands — the latter being one of Gateway's former rival computer manufacturers, until it became a sister trademark after Acer acquired it in 2008. Soon afterward, however, the Gateway brand was also discontinued.
In September 2020, Acer revived the Gateway branding on laptops and tablets sold exclusively through Walmart. Acer commissioned Bmorn Technology, a Shenzhen-based technology company, to manufacture and sell these Gateway branded laptops. The new line of laptops is a rebadging of Walmart's existing EVOO-branded laptops. The laptops' sound systems are tuned in partnership with THX."

Received mine today and it has the 5675u. Nice free 11% in general CPU upgrade. The fan curve is absurdly aggressive and obnoxious. I could not get Ryzen control to install. Did anyone else get it to work or have any suggestions? Also, definitely seems to be a restart bug - manual restart leads to a boot up with a black screen. But manual shutdown plus power on works just fine. Gateway needs to provide a bios update or something to fix this.

To reduce fan speed, install the Ryzen controller or universal x86 tuning utility (recommended) and set the CPU maximum temperature to 50°C. This will make your system significantly quieter. However, please note that CPU performance may decrease accordingly. For the reboot issue, I recommend updating to the latest version of Windows 11. If that doesn't work, I recommend deleting the existing Windows and reinstalling. This will definitely resolve the issue.

If you cant control fan speed in BIOS, then use
FanControl https://getfancontrol.com/

I ordered on 2/5 at around 10 pm EST and it was delivered around noon today. They didn't even tape the box and anyone could have open it. The laptop looks new and I was able to sync from my other computer, so it's all set to go. The internet speed seems to be slower than my other devices. I will look for another 8gm of ram to install just in case. I don't plan on storing anything on this laptop so 256gb should be sufficient and I have a few external drives if needed.

The response time seems to be slower, and the internet speed test also seems slower other than that it works fine. I played YouTube video and it looks good.

Great price, thanks OP!

That's my experience, too. No tape on the box but appearing new. The wifi adapter is trash. I have wifi 7 at home and this laptop connects to 802.11n at 72/72 (Mbps) link speed. I've been using an older Lenovo laptop at that same location with an Intel 9560 wifi adapter, and it connected at 802.11ac and around 243/243 (Mbps) link speed. This one is slower when downloading a file, but Youtube seemed fine, so I'm not going to complain too much at this price point. If there is a compatible wifi card that'll work in this one, please let us know. I think the newer Intel m.2 aren't compatible.

My restart issues resolved themselves and if I want the laptop to be quieter, I just change the Windows power setting to energy saver and that helps a lot. I too will be adding an 8GB stick next week. They aren't too expensive on Ebay. Overall, for an email/Youtube/MS Office laptop, I'm fairly impressed. The screen and brightness is quite good. Ryzen cpu feels quite snappy. Thanks OP!

Got mine. Has the 5675u CPU. Replaced the nvme to 1tb, ram 32gb and ordered an ax200 wifi card. So in old world prices, I bought a $400 laptop for $200 then added $200 worth of frills. I wish I could find a way to tweak the fans and power profiles. The bios is supprisingly robust but no power profiles.

Thanks for that information. I wasn't sure if the Intel ax200 would work because I thought I read our laptop has only one antenna wire, whereas we need two for the ax200. Please do let us know if you get that ax200 working, I'll order one for myself asap.

I opened mine up. It had a Fn Link 6222M-PUC Wi-Fi Realtek module in it. Which seems to be an AC wifi 5 module. It has two mhf4 antennas. These are probably tuned for 2.4ghz and 5ghz, but will work with the 6ghz of the AX200 but may provide a weaker signal for that band. Generally not an issue.

https://www.fn-link.com/6222M-PUC...57070.html

Edit: Other notes. Had a Rayson m.2 2280 256GB sata drive. Didn't test but sata is 550MB/s. So putting a Gen3+ mvme would net you 5-7x better interface speed. (pcie 3x4 3938 MB/s) The WD SN740 1tb drive I put in did 3727 MB/s read 3236 MB/s write showing the drive is limited. (gen3) The WD on pcie 4x4 would do 5150 MB/s read 4900 MB/s write.

I logged in for the 1st time in yrs to give a heartfelt thankyou to BabyBubba for this deal! I scoured Eb*y & Sh*pgoodwill etc for a loong time to find a cheap fast CPU'd laptop with 17.3" (for my aging eyes), to usually dock at 4k@60hz to a big tv. But also, here's a few things that some other buyers may find useful: 1) To add to Blahbooboo2's post about debloating windows, I highly rec starting with FBConan's Win 11 X-Lite Optimum or Micro setup dnlds, they put you in a MASSIVELY better debloated & secure starting point, run faster, bypass Msoft acount if/until you want, etc; then run O&O ShutUp etc to suit your taste. And you don't need to be more savvy to do it than stock setup. 2) As mentioned, I confirm that this laptop does run external monitors 4k@60hz through the rear USB-C port - with an active Type-C to HDMI adapter rated for 4k@60hz. 3) If there's ever any serious security vulnerability, it looks like future BIOS updates (from Bmorn who manufactures, Evoo who imports, or Acer who contracted Bmorn / Evoo) may work. I'm looking into it closely. As ShrewdFriction889 pointed out, Gateway and Packard Bell are among Acer owned zombie names. 4) Adding to Goofy36's helpful review: Mine's 75wh battery just finished condition cycling unplugged, it idled from 6am to past 9pm (screen off but sleep & hibernate disabled). And, the dual pipe CPU cooler works VERY well under high power load, see --->
5) To Schmide: -The BIOS does have a multi-point fan curve settting page, its not for the faint of heart though. I recommend software fan control for all but folks more hardcore than me. Myself though, I'm leaving the fan's aggressive curve active for performance while plugged in, because the laptop is waay more quiet running with the lid closed like I do. And I want those extra rpm's available with the change I DID make in the BIOS from 15 watt limited, to 25 watt limit. Here's where the setting is hiding in the BIOS's drop down menu screens: Arrow right to Advanced, arrow down to AMD CPS, enter, arrow down to NBIO Common Options, enter, arrow down to SMU Common Options, enter, arrow down to System Configuration (going right past fan control), enter, arrow to and enter on your power limit option selection, and of course back out selecting Save and Exit. Mine was set at 15w as delivered, 25w works stable, cool and faast for me, 10w, 15w, 25w, 35w, (and amazingly 45w & 54w) are the options. 25 watt SHOULDN'T be a big deal as long your not using mayonaise for thermal compound. NotebookCheck's review of the Ryzen 5675U says most vendors set it to 25w on their laptops anyway, and it's peak wattage is 28-32w depending on your source. If I ever run it limited at 35w I'll repaste it with exotic thermal compound. 45w wouldn't perform higher than 35w cuz it would just thermal throttle if it even ran stable, unless maybe you were watercooling this CPU in a desktop or something. 54w? dunno, maybe liquid nitrogen cooling... Here's my 1st 2 benchmark runs to show how fast this "Gateway" runs at 25w even before my dual channel RAM kit for it gets here in the mail (it'll have way faster graphics & slightly uplifted CPU performance too, then) --->

Is anyone planning to upgrade the memory? If you're replacing the factory Rayson RS08GS4C08 module, I'd be interested.

This product's display has a 120Hz refresh rate. And if you're lucky, you might get an upgraded version with the 5675U processor instead of the 5500U. How do I know? Because I bought it. It's a very good product, so I recommend it.
Mine came with the 5675U Ryzen 5 Pro processor according to the BIOS.
