New to the m12 line. I have 4 or 5 tools. If I remember correctly I thought I read some posts that the 5ah battery is the way to go because of problems with the bigger batteries? How much truth is there to that?

There is a known issue with the M18 6, not the m12 6.

Since when? As far as I remember, it was the M12 6.0s

I've seen many people on here claim the m12 6ah batteries are the worst of the m12 lineup as they are known to have issues. I don't have any opinion on the matter as I haven't had any trouble with the few 6ahs I've owned but YMMV.

Not so sure if it's problems with the batteries rather these are not High output. So depends on the tool. But are reports with the connector on these breaking or hard to remove them. I don't own any 6.0 so can't confirm on that.

5.0 HO batteries are the best all around batter for the larger size.

The M12 6.0 has a known issue. The pack discharges and you can no longer charge it. Speaking from experience, I'd stay away from these.
The HO XC5.0 2-pack is on sale at HD now for $120.. a little more expensive but you're also getting the high output. If I needed batteries right now, I would grab those.

I have two m12 6.0 batts. One of them has one or more faulty cells. This happened when I ran my m12 rover light down to the low battery indicator on the 6.0. It refused to charge after that. I had to jump it with another m12 battery in order for the charger to recognize it. It will charge now but will go to 50% capacity real quick.

I have over 15 M12 batteries. The only one that has died was a 6.0.

Good price, but as most others said generally considered to be the least reliable m12 battery given you can get a high output 5.0 for a similar price these are a pass in my opinion.

5.0HO is only one to buy, several deals for them for same price just be patient. Unless you need cheap, then 4.0, or also 2.5HO for lightweight if that's important for what your doing

Same here, had 2 M12 6.0s die over the years, everything else is still going, out of ~20 batteries

M12 6.0s are the least desirable ones. I prefer 3.0s (much cheaper!) or 5.0s.

I'll echo the echochamber. Of all my M12 batteries only my 6.0 M12 went back for warranty. The new one hasn't been a problem.
