Hisense's U8 series is being treated as a bright, high end Mini LED option that gets close to OLED for less, with strong HDR performance and a Google TV interface that feels polished. The 65 inch price around $859 is described as near the lowest seen so far, and the set is also praised as a solid replacement tier above lower Hisense models. The main cautions are that out of the box settings may need adjustment and some U8 units have shown board or power up issues over time. Overall, it reads as a strong value if you want a very bright premium TV and can live with some setup and reliability risk.
People who want a brighter, near-OLED viewing experience because commenters say MiniLED is only a minor step below OLED and call the U8 "crazy bright."
65" buyers shopping for the Hisense U8 "8 series" tier because commenters say this is about the lowest price they've seen for a 65" U8 before newer 2026 models arrive, with possible dips to ~$750-800 later in summer/early fall.
Owners who already use an external streaming box (like a Roku) because one commenter says they use a Roku player 99.99% of the time, which limits how much they rely on the TV's built-in smart platform.
Buyers who care about the Google TV experience and HDR performance because a commenter with a 2021 U8G says the Google TV interface is great and that the U8 lineup looks great with HDR content.
People replacing a failing TV because one commenter mentions a white jagged line that just appeared on their screen and says this looks like a nice replacement.
Hisense shoppers who were considering going below the "U" and "7" series because commenters advise not buying Hisense models lower than a U or 7 unless you absolutely have to.
Owners who are sensitive to reliability issues with HDR/Dolby content because one commenter reports their board started failing, with HDR/Dolby causing banding and freezing after the warranty ended.
People planning to use the TV outdoors in a very hot shed because a commenter considering this for a hot shed in Austin says they're second-guessing it and wondering if a less expensive, less bright matte-screen option would be better.
Yes. This is described as about the lowest price for a 65-inch U8 series before newer 2026 models arrive, with a possible drop to roughly $750-$800 later in summer or early fall. It is also framed as the safer Hisense tier to buy compared with models below the U8/U7 level.
The U8 Mini-LED lineup is described as very bright, with one 75-inch unit called "crazy bright." It is also praised for looking great with HDR content, which is where the extra brightness is especially useful.
Some units have reported board-related problems, including powering-up failures, HDR/Dolby banding, and freezing. A temporary fix for the power issue is unplugging the TV for about 5 seconds, and an extended warranty or replacement board may be needed if the problem persists.
Yes. The default settings can be wacky, and Rtings-recommended adjustments are suggested to get the best picture. That matters because the panel is considered a strong performer, especially with HDR content.
Yes. One owner uses a Roku player 99.99% of the time and is still happy with the TV, which suggests the panel can pair well with an external streamer if you prefer that over the built-in Google TV interface.
yeah this is about the lowest the price for an 8 series 65", unless you want to try to find a new 2025 after the 2026 model comes out. Summer or early fall maybe you find this for $750-800, but this is probably the best you get before then.
I have the 2022 65U8 Still going fine, love it. I added a roku player and use that 99.99% of the time..so, i guess that limits ny review somewhat for the tv

I think this is the lowest price so far. Hisense and TCL have announced that they will be the first two companies to include Dolby Vision 2 on their 2026 models. Hisense has said that it will start on their U8 series and up
I've been really impressed by the u8 lineup. I have a 2021 model (u8g). Google tv interface is great. These TVs get ridiculously bought and look great with HDR content

Me too, but my board is starting to fail. HDR and Dolby content causes banding and freezing. Got is November 21 for $699 and added 4 year warranty. Of course it craps out two months after the warranty ended. $30 replacement board on the way - hoping that fixes it. If not, looking at this or TCL QM8K as a replacement.
The price is nice on this U8. When looking hisense, it's advised to never buy a model lower than a "U" and "7" unless you absolutely have to...
Yeah don't go below a 7 series for a primary TV. Only for an extra TV for somewhere else in the house.
7 & 8 series are already cheap enough - going much below that & you're just getting too cheap & sacrificing quality. & yeah going away from the U series to to A series or Q series is not advisable either.

Don't forget to do the necessary adjustments to the TV settings that Rtings recommends. Setting out of the box can be wacky sometimes!
