Attached are GeekBench scores that I ran on the phones I have/had. The 2024 Moto G Stylus has similar scores to the Samsung A54 5G. The 2025 Moto G Stylus has a faster process than the 2024 version, so it should be faster than the A54. I ordered the 2025 Stylus this morning. I will run GeekBench on it when I receive it, and post the scores.

Unfortunately, after Verizon has been relieved of its boundation to unlock devices within 60 days on Jan 20 2026, this is the easiest and cheapest way to buy a new device with decent specs that gets auto unlock (albeit after 365 days) without paying anything extra after the initial activation. From the carrier perspective it makes little sense selling the devices at steep discount without even breaking-even by making the customer pay the overly inflated telecom service, so its kind of a stretch expecting them to easily unlock the devices (within a short period of time like 60 days).
Having said that, this is slickdeals Smilie and here, one expects to get the best possible 'bang for the buck' on a given day, hence the deal. Happy to be corrected.

Would love to get this but waiting a year for unlock sucks, that is an unreasonably long wait time 😞 They really should change unlock policy back to 60 days (or less).

huh? I did it last year and it was 60 days. Did they change the policy? Best buy offers unlocked with sim card promo.
Last year Verizon petitioned the FCC to get out of the 60-day unlocking requirement. The FCC granted their wish in mid-January this year and they changed it to one-year on 1/20/26.

I get my phone today. After activating it can I remove the sim and use it in my current phone, or does it have to stay in the Moto G stylus 2025?

If your current phone is an inactive Metro phone, you can use the Switch Device function in your Metro account to transfer service from the G Stylus to it. Else, your current phone must be able to accept a Metro BYOP SIM or eSIM to have service from the Stylus transferred to it.

I was looking for a decent mp3 player for the car but someone recommended this since it can take an SD card... score...

Thanks for posting this deal. I did not opt in to autopay, but I struggle with understanding how these subscription services work. If anyone would happen to know how this stuff works, I have two questions:
Is it still going to charge me after one month?
And if you deactivate the Metro account, will that prevent the device from getting unlocked after a year?

Autopay is OFF by default. You pay for the 1st month when you buy the phone. Near the end of the 1st month, Metro will prompt you to pay for the 2nd month. If you take no action (i.e. NOT paying for the 2nd month), your phone line is suspended (no service) for a few days (they hope that you will pay), then the line is deactivated. Once there's no active line in your account, you can no longer receive the security code to log into your account, and some time later they deactivate your account. A deactivated account does not have any effect on unlocking your phone(s). A year after activation, turn on your phone, connect it to WiFi, then go to Settings-->About Phone-->Device Details-->Network Lock for the Unlock Status. If it still shows Locked, touch it to trigger the unlocking process.

I grabbed one of these in August when it was free with a $65 plan. Waiting 365 days is tough, but it's $55 for a phone that's currently on sale for $350 new. My current phone (a Motorola Edge Plus 2022) is working fine (except for the horribly buggy wireless charging that never worked well). I'm hoping my current phone can keep working until August at least. This is a bad choice for anyone that needs a unlocked phone immediately, but if you've got time to wait I don't think you can beat it.
Isn't this a downgrade performance wise from the Edge+ 2022 if you plan on using this after August?

Quite happy with this phone, but I got it ATT unlocked off eBay, Grade A refurb for under 190 delivered. Running on Visible+ plan and enjoying it. Moved from a stylus 2024, don't really feel it's worth the upgrade from 2024 to 2025, but nephew broke his old phone. Still a better love story than the Pixel 9a vs 10a.

Edit: should point out that my phone before the 2024 was a Samsung fold4, and before that a flagship OnePlus, so I know from premium, too. Still happy with the stylus line for my needs, much as my old eyes miss the fold.

That's what I use mine for. Make sure you disable Dolby. It will mess with your car stereo tuning. out of the box the phone speakers are bad. you can adjust it using thebyilt in Dolby app use audio effects > Music > enable Brilliant Treble

Interesting, but if service were transferred to another phone right after activation, would the stylus still unlock 365 days later? In other words, is it activation alone that triggers the unlock countdown or does the stylus need to also have at least 1 month of service in order to unlock a year later?

I can't say for sure that transferring service out still gets the phone unlocked. I have only transferred service out of phones that I sold as locked.
Regarding the phone must be in service for 1 month, not really. Up until around mid-2025, Metro unlocked phones after 6 months. I bought several phones and since you have to activate phone #1 before you can order #2, and activate #2 before ordering #3, the phones' activation dates were staggered. The phones were in the same account, so when the line for phone #1 expired after 30 days all the lines expired at the same time. As such, phone #2 and phone #3 were in service for less than 30 days each. But 6 months after each phone's activation date it got unlocked.
So, if Metro mainly wants you to pay for 1 month of service for each discounted phone but doesn't care how many days of service the phone actually had, then transferring service out won't prevent it from getting unlocked. That's my speculation.

In some ways yes, in some ways no.

The processor is certainly less capable on the stylus. Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 vs 6 Gen 3. I don't really game, so that doesn't matter a whole lot to me and I don't expect to notice a difference in day to day usage. The 512GB of storage vs 128GB is certainly a concern. I have a 256GB card laying around from my previous phone. I can always go get a 512GB or even 1TB card, so I'm not too worried about that. I'm not sure if accessing pictures, video, podcast from a microSD vs internal storage will be noticeably slower.

The big thing that I know for sure is better on the G Stylus is the wireless charging. I'm not sure if it's a problem on every Edge+ 2022 or just poor quality control, but mine has a lot of problems trying to charge wirelessly. It seems it charges full speed for a few minutes, then drops down to 1-2W. I've tested the G Stylus with my 15W and 10W charges and it seems to charge full speed the whole time. I also like having a stylus for the fairly rare times that I want to markup an image on my phone.

I'm not obligated to switch to the stylus, but it will be nice to have the option. I also like the idea of having something on hand that I can switch to if my edge+ dies suddenly. I've had 2 phones (Galaxy Note 4 and Moto Z2 Force) that just suddenly wouldn't turn on one day. No water, drops, or any trauma, just suddenly dead. Maybe the Edge+ will keep going for a few more years, but if it suddenly dies after August I'm good to go.

There's also a chance my mom or dad could need a new phone.
