Walmart has the Samsung - T7 2TB External USB 3.2 Gen 2 Portable SSD with Hardware Encryption for $159.00, it's definitely higher than last year but is decent for the current market as the price on various marketplaces are around $309 due to the recent price increases on memory and RAM.

Every time I see the Samsung T7 2TB deals, they're already sold out.

These will come back down in price. Just give it some time.

Best Buy has the crucial 4tb x9 pro for $305 which seems to be the next best deal/price right now. I've actually bought several of them the past few months and have been enjoying them. Super small, they don't get hot and the transfer times are solid for large files.

Can I just plug it in into my Samsung phone and move files over without extra apps and software?

You should be able to, any SSD should be able to connect to any android/samsung device and you can use the "My Files" built in app to move things around.

Are these the same internals as the T7 Shield from a couple of years ago? If so I'd avoid these drives. Many users (myself included) have seen issues where write speeds will drop to 1-2MB unless you keep the drive plugged in and on all the time. Kind of kills the point of a "portable" drive.

The only way to resolve the issue is to either format the drive or keep the drive plugged in for several hours while copying a large file, but eventually the issue will come back.
