You WANT DisplayPorts whenever possible. Having DisplayPorts instead of HDMI is a good thing.

but the fact that "laptops/macs do not have DP" is entirely irrelevant. yeah, that may be true, but thanks to this dock, your laptop will now have dual displayports, that's like, the main feature of this dock in the first place.
what do you mean? you don't connect your laptop to this dock via HDMI. you connect your computer via Thunderbolt and connect the DISPLAY to HDMI. If you have an outdated/old monitor that doesn't support DisplayPort (again, check your monitor, it probably does because, again, DP is everything HDMI can do but better), then you can use a $4 dongle to downgrade the DP to HDMI for your old monitor.
