Because people keep thinking it will work with the switch and end up returning it when it does not.

Anker has a non-power delivery one which is just a basic usb-c to hdmi for $20 for the same length. So unless you can't use the power delivery or the size doesn't fit whichever tv or monitor you're trying to plug it into, this seems like a solid deal.

It's a simpler setup and 140 pd, but I agree even a simple adapter might be less prone to failure- at least then you can replace the HDMI end.
Also, HDMI 2.0 in 2026 is ridiculous.

Yes I use mine I own the 10 ft. version. I use this rn w my Samsung tab s9 I have a 100 watt charger cause I read they recommend using 100 watt chargers. I can use this on my tablet to mirror or dex. Same with my Samsung S23ultra plug and Samsung Dex goes on if your setting when plugged to hdmi is on wil go to dex. iPad will auto screen mirror. I use this w dex n my s9 pretty much everyday to a monitor with this sweet lil device. I have tested this wire with both switch 1 and switch 2 . I am here to report as another person posted about the high returns, right cause people don't read, this Does Not work with the Nintendo Switch 1 or 2. One con is that on monitors cause they are smaller than tv's, the hdmi ports are pretty closely spaced. I happen to own a fire stick that added a free 2 inch extension. On a 55 inch tv this is not an issue. That has fixed the issue w no degradation to the picture. F-or sound I obviously Bluetooth a speaker or you can listen from the device, however my ears don't like tin cans. Will fast charge but no fast super charging or super fast charging 2.0. Limit is 4k, 3840x2160 at 60 hertz/FramesPerSecond. (Found that usb-c 100 watt wire w a volt meter is also pretty legit to know how many watts are transferring. But that's an extra buy...) I do own the Ugreen 10 ft. version which the Anker nano is smaller hence the name. Still needed that extension only for a monitor. Super clean with 1 wire off ur device. Definitely reccomend the Anker Nano as long as it's Not for switch.

why not just get a USB-C hub with HDMI output? This HDMI port is awkwardly large and may not fit behind some TVs.

This allows you to simultaneously charge the device.

USB-C docks let you do that too.

If this won't work with the Switch 1 or 2, is there anything besides the dock that does?

Two reasons, neither of which make me want this. 1st, 140w PD passthrough. 2nd, build in HDMI cable.
