I bought from this seller 2 months ago. Flew it a few times. Battery won't charge now (4 lights flashing). Seller is not helpful. Take a look at all the 1-star reviews for this seller that somehow are all crossed out and all "Amazon's responsibility". Hundreds. Sketch. Buyer beware.

Everything is better with the Neo 2...a lot faster, more stable (bit larger), more silent, better video with much better gimbal, battery life, internal storage capacity, obstacle avoidance, tracking, screen to show you modes w/o a phone etc.

But it is more $
Still, insane to think that a self tracking 4k video drone sells for less than some action cams do...is DJI losing $ with the drones or making insane margins on the action cams?

It's a blast, and $149 is the lowest price I've seen (I bought @$169).
it's super easy for beginners, you can literally take off from your palm and control everything from your phone. The tracking feature actually works well for follow shots, and the 4K video is smooth and crisp. The best part is it's so tiny and light (only 135g) you can just toss it in your bag. Perfect for trips or just messing around.

For new imports only, all existing stock can still be sold.
What a shame. Wish it was retroactive.

Out of curiosity, why? Further, because I didn't know before looking just now, do you know/understand why they're banned from additional imports at this time? I was surprised to find out that on December 22, 2025, the FCC issued a sweeping announcement banning the import of all new "foreign-made" drones, not just DJI.

Aren't DJI drones going to be banned in the US? I've a magic and I'd love to trade that in for newer multi rotors.

2 more batteries for $70 more worth it?
I guess that depends on what you're purpose for it is. As far as I can tell, the most use for drones where we are is by real estate agents. For them, having the extra batteries would be crucial.

Looks like the elevation limit of 400 feet (US/FAA) is based on AGL (Above Ground Limit) at _all times - it is not based on takeoff point elevation.
If you launch from top and ski down, but maintain a (follow-me) height of less than 400 feet AGL, you should be okay.

No experience in alpine skiing flights, but the issues (flight failures) could be:
  • Neo1's downward optical vision is older tech - recognition is poor, it can't see well in darker areas.
Prevention: Stay above 10 meters so that the Neo1 relies mostly on GPS lock; If you go low, make sure there's some variation of terrain (color) under the drone (I do not know it's optical view angle). When you land and the Neo1's downward optics only see a sea of white snow, have a very visible colorful contrasted landing pad ... or wear pink and polka-dot-red gloves for palm landing.

  • Tall tree lines, clouds, snowing whiteout- all will obscure GPS signals. Having less than 12 satellite links established before takeoff would be a concern, since dynamic home position needs to be updated, plus if the Neo1 fails-over to its optical sensors, it sees mostly white.
  • Remember to enable "Dynamic Home Point". Otherwise, if the pilot skiing down accidentally presses RTH (Return to Home) on his phone/controller, it's a long walk/ride back up the slopes.
  • Dont try Glade/Tree skiing with the Neo1- no drone can avoid twigs, but the Neo1 is older gen. For tight follow-me near trees, the Neo _2's size and (forward-only) lidar, will be the best bet.
  • Using Parallel (flanking) tracking is riskier, especially from 10 - 2 o'clock, since even for the Neo2, only partial lidar is available for its direction of travel.
  • Review tips on how cold temps affect DJI battery. Watch for sudden dips in battery voltage, reduced flight times. Warm batteries with body heat before takeoff, and hover for a awhile, to run batteries warm, before flight.
Again, no experience. Visit forums, get firsthand successes and "duh" 20/20 crash lessons.
Good info, but you missed the key issue. Flying on a mountain isn't so much about AGL, it's the altitude you're flying at.
Air is thinner at higher altitudes. Some drones won't even take off at certain altitudes because the manufacturer has determined the drone may not be capable of generating sufficient lift.

Do some research. The FTC hasn't banned it because of safety, it's because they (and any other federal agency) has not reviewed DJI 's practices.
DJI has publicly been willing and made efforts to reach out. But no federal agency has made the effort to review.

Anyone used this skiing?
Yes it works great. However, most ski resorts have a ban on use of drones. It's a safety issue.

Who owns DJI? Where are they based? And how does that government treat US interests?

If you want the neo2 with extra batteries, buy from eBay with a South Korea seller as they don't have tarrifs. 315ish for drone charger and 3 batteries

And for what it's worth wireds take https://www.wired.com/story/whats...drone-ban/
