I don't know if it's actually that important, every time I turn to look at my watch it has turned the display on, it's not like I have to wait. Plus you get better battery life with it not having stay on when you're not looking at it 98% of the hours of the day

i was excited until i found out it doesn't have always on. sca(m)pple gonna make sure to gate off the most important feature of a watch for more expensive versions.

But that kind of logical thinking doesn't let you smugly write "sca(m)pple" and then pat yourself on the back for being such a savvy and clever consumer who is let being ripped off by Tim Cook's machinations.

It can be worn on the ankle if all you care about are the fitness features. It does need an internal clock to know what day, but no one's looking at the display when its on the ankle.

Released in 2022, so it is probably about halfway to end of support life at this point. That said, I feel like watch updates have far fewer changes than phones... so for this price still a good deal for just a smartwatch with the basics.
I'd prefer series 10 or 11 with gps and cellular but haven't seen deep discounts in awhile since holidays. Been using a family members old 40mm series 5 with gps and. Cellular and it's down to 80% battery healthy. Still useable for fitness activities
