Another benefit of this type of mouse is you don't need a full table to use it with a laptop, you can set it next to you or on your thigh when using a laptop on the go.

this type of mouse reversed my plantar fasciitis. yes it takes quite a while to get used to it, but I would not use any other type (tried verticals etc)

I always have used these, for gaming, everyday use, ever since the late 90's. It takes getting used to, especially if all you use is a normal mouse. I never had wrist issues thanks to this type of mouse. But the left clicker eventually will start to go bad and do double clicks after about 2 years or so, at least that was my experience. 3 years ago I bought the 100.00 rechargeable version and its been great, havnt had any left clicker issues as of yet. Charge lasts a long time, only thing that sucks is the rare times you need to recharge you need to plug it in like a phone charger to keep using it till it recharges.

this is the one I bought, Logitech MX Ergo S.

I can confirm that you've used these a lot because of the mention of the double click issue. They haven't fixed this in multiple model releases.

Sadly, the $100 Ergo MX or whatever it's called still has the issue. I've had 2 go bad. I'm currently using #3 and #4 at two different workstations - I like them a bit better than these cheaper models, but I use them a LOT.

I started using these in the late 90s too. Back when they were much flatter, corded, and beige. 2 months into college and I started having wrist problems from mouse usage (I swear it was from mouse usage!!!). Switching to a trackball mouse quickly solved the problem.

I bought this during the Thanksgiving sale (used for $26) for this same reason and returned it. This thing is massive. Inconvenient to carry and then it takes too much space on the seat (I used it when riding a train during my commute). I am still trying to find a smaller alternative.
They (not Logitech but "they" meaning random companies) make small handheld trackball mice that might be better for train usage. I can't recommend any, but it might might be a product category you'd want to consider.

I've had the same issue and bought like 3 or 4 of these. Everyone says to solder some high quality switches as replacement. So I bought the switches but have never gotten around to doing it lol.... ugh

Yeah, I just consider they consumables. I wish they were easier to repair so there was less e-waste, but I don't have time (or skills any longer) to solder these to fix them.

I looked up when I ordered my 100.00 mouse from bestbuy, it was Feb. 10 2023, so just over 3yrs and so far havnt had any double click issues luckily. The cheaper one like what is in this deal posted that uses batteries had the issue over time using it. About 7 years ago or so, they had them on sale for 19.99 and I bought 3, used 2 of them and gave 1 to my coworker for use at work. My coworker still uses it at work, I've never asked if they started having double click issues yet, but I never hear anything said about mouse issues.

I'm guessing since I game with these that I just put alot of wear and tear and these cant handle it, unlike the good ole corded ones from the late 90's. The rechargeable one though for me has handled quite well for the 3yrs I've had it, my old receipt shows I had got it on sale for 84.99 and I had used a 5.00 reward certificate that they had sent me in an email. I would buy the rechargeable one again if it ever goes bad, I will not buy the battery one though.

Wow, thanks so much. I did not know about this category, I was checking mice similar to OPs. I will look into them.

Not sure what you guys are trying to talk about but the word plantar refers to the foot in medical lingo. Carpal tunnel maybe?
They have been using the mouse with their feet... Get used to it

FYI, the good (rechargeable) one is sometimes available as cheap as ~$50 or so via Amazon Warehouse when the 30% off sales pop up. That's how I got my last two units.

I don't think they ever made a beige one, though some of them became beige as they aged. I've got almost the entire TrackMan lineage, going back to the very first model (which was basically a brick with a ball in it).

That gives me ideas. The balls are sold separately, I also have some spare ones. Use them in addition to rollers or standing desk mat.

I tried one of these after having negative experiences with a traditional mouse. Moving the trackball ended up creating tendon inflammation at the base of my thumb.
I tried about 10 different mouse types and found that an additional factor I care about is my thumb not dragging on the mousepad. I have been using this for about a month and have had positive results- https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DVD5RTZ5?th=1.

However, I did start experiencing pain at the head of the ulna and started using this (I like green). https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09P4HK...title&th=1.

So far, so good. I use a mouse for about 10 hours M-F and 4 hours Sat/Sun.

My first one was definitely beige when I threw it away about a year ago (found it in an old box that had college stuff in it). It had a plastic ring with a hole (or was it a bump?) in it that you rotate so you can get the ball out to clean it.

But you may be right, it might not have started out beige. 😆
