Sadly, the $100 Ergo MX or whatever it's called still has the issue. I've had 2 go bad. I'm currently using #3 and #4 at two different workstations - I like them a bit better than these cheaper models, but I use them a LOT.
I started using these in the late 90s too. Back when they were much flatter, corded, and beige. 2 months into college and I started having wrist problems from mouse usage (I swear it was from mouse usage!!!). Switching to a trackball mouse quickly solved the problem.

I'm guessing since I game with these that I just put alot of wear and tear and these cant handle it, unlike the good ole corded ones from the late 90's. The rechargeable one though for me has handled quite well for the 3yrs I've had it, my old receipt shows I had got it on sale for 84.99 and I had used a 5.00 reward certificate that they had sent me in an email. I would buy the rechargeable one again if it ever goes bad, I will not buy the battery one though.

I tried about 10 different mouse types and found that an additional factor I care about is my thumb not dragging on the mousepad. I have been using this for about a month and have had positive results- https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DVD5RTZ5?th=1.
However, I did start experiencing pain at the head of the ulna and started using this (I like green). https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09P4HK...title
So far, so good. I use a mouse for about 10 hours M-F and 4 hours Sat/Sun.

But you may be right, it might not have started out beige. 😆
