This year I bought H&R for the first time. Have always used Turbotax before. Didn't want to upgrade to Win 11.

Importing tax docs from online brokerages did not work. The software itself is very clumsy and feels outdated, Turbotax is much more user friendly.

Even though I managed to file with H&R, I am going back to Turbotax next year.

Strictly my personal opinion, others might have different experience.

A this as good as turbo tax? Thanks
If you have complicated tax situation (multiple states, spouse works in different state, etc) HR block in some situation has better options. I switched to HR block from turbotax few years back because of this. From functionality and UI standpoint, turbotax has the edge.

$23 was expired and I need it. Guess $30 and a $10 GC for some pizza isn't awful.

I switched from TaxAct to HR Block desktop version. Then last year and this year I switched to FreeTaxUSA . FreeTaxUSA allows drag and drop of forms like 1099 pdfs this year (it's in Beta). Due to this and due to them having my 2024 data, I completed my semi complicated tax return in record time. I'm FreeTaxUSA now.

It got it for $23 last month So thats $7 more and you get a $10 gc, all in all a gimmick/savings of $3. Nah!
You wouldn't pick up $3 if it was sitting on the sidewalk? What if you could use it to buy some punctuation?

Can you use the state for multiple states like TurboTax used to do before requiring to register?

HR Block is much better for people with complicated situations and who need help online. Cheaper than Turbotax.

Do you think this will work with a 1099 NEC and a W-2? Trying to see if it can do a Home Office deduction and itemize. That's really it.

I take this deal as a sign that the previous low price without having to go through these extra hoops is the lowest it will be this season and am quite happy to have already purchased.
