Looking at the customer review pictures on Amazon, yes this can be used the way you describe; set the speed and oscillation settings you want, plug in to a smart plug, toggle off/on with the smart plug. You will not be able to change speeds or oscillation settings except via the wired controller. That said, reviews are not favorable, which is a shame bc I want the same setup you ask about and this price is stellar.
