Install syncthing-fork on both of your phones, and leave your pixel plugged in at home. Setup syncthing to sync your camera folder from your real phone. Any time you take a photo or video it'll immediately transfer directly to your pixel and backup to Google photos from there. It's like having the unlimited original quality Google photos storage deal on any phone.

You can even download all the photos and videos you have in your Google photos account currently (Google takeout makes this easy), delete them from Google photos, copy them to your pixel 1 camera folder, and they'll upload back into your Google Photos account, but take up no space.

And if anyone wants in on this, just buy a used pixel 1. All photos and videos that upload to Google Photos from a pixel 1 take up no storage space on your account, regardless of what device you used to capture them. It's free lifetime unlimited original quality photo and video cloud storage.

At some point in the future the OS on the original pixel will become too old to run the latest Google photos app, and this loophole will end, but anything you upload until that time is free to store forever.

Did the costco route:

Max 4 lines allowed
No activation fee, $100 shop card per line
Have credit card ready to pay tax for the full price of the phones
Have your old phone IMEI ready - need to be T-Mobile network compatible. I used the decades old 2G phones
Have computer ready to DocuSign the order email
It took me one hour to complete, no hiccups

I see this in my Magenta plan but terms don't mention Magenta is eligible. Confusing.

For me it shows as on qualified plans and the Advantage Unlimited plus is not listed in the qualifying plans.

Did they allow you to keep the same plan or have you upgrade to one of their higher priced plans?

Also, did you in the past move from the Sprint advantage plans to T-Mobile simple choice?
My two accounts have a mix of Advantage Unlimited (and Plus) & free lines. Both accounts were eligible for Pixel10 promo with no plan change required.

Does the Pixel have to remain active on the number that you upgrade on? I have an old moto g that'd I'd like to trade in but I'm not sure if I want to give up my S24+ as my daily driver.

T-Life app, I haven't tried it in store.
Personally, I would prefer to upgrade at Costco as you could get 75 to 100 $ Costco card.

I just tried calling Costco to do this. I was informed that one of my lines qualified for the $800 promo (which would pay for the Pixel 10), but the other one only $500 (which would not). Not sure if this is a new policy rolling out, or if I just got an uncooperative CSR. Big Grin

Edited to add: I waited a bit, called back, and got a new CSR. He gave me the full $800 promo for both lines, no questions asked. Also, no $35 activation fee -- I just paid sales tax on the full MSRP of the phones. I'll also be getting 2 $100 Costco shop cards in 8-10 weeks.

So net, I'm upgrading to 2 Pixel 10s and actually receiving more money than I'm spending. Great deal!

Nope, that doesn't matter at all. You can get this free pixel and carry on using whatever phone you prefer.

This will wear out the storage on the pixel 1. So will kill a 32gb pretty quickly.

You don't actually need to upload from the pixel 1 though, only need to add them to your account from it. This can be done via a sharing link for photos already uploaded to another account.
Grabbed a Pixel 1 (128GB) this year to do the free unlimited Photos trick, but my main account is already over 1TB. I Tried doing Google Takeout in 50GB chunks year-by-year and gave up halfway through the first year.
Going to try the sharing method instead — does the Pixel actually have to download and re-upload the photos for it to count? If so, how many can it realistically handle at once? I've got a few hundred GB per year… should I be doing this in monthly batches?

Is this YMMV targeted? I have simple choice and I don't see this offer.

Edit: NVM I see it on TLife. Does the Pixel 9a have a physical SIM slot?

Or what's the Promo ID if I want to call the Costco Line?

The Pixel 9a does have a sim slot. Pixel 10 is a better deal but it is esim only

Why is the pixel 10 not available in 256gb? That's unfortunate.

No new line necessary. Trade in a really old phone, get a Pixel 10, keep the same number. Simple.
