Install syncthing-fork on both of your phones, and leave your pixel plugged in at home. Setup syncthing to sync your camera folder from your real phone. Any time you take a photo or video it'll immediately transfer directly to your pixel and backup to Google photos from there. It's like having the unlimited original quality Google photos storage deal on any phone.

You can even download all the photos and videos you have in your Google photos account currently (Google takeout makes this easy), delete them from Google photos, copy them to your pixel 1 camera folder, and they'll upload back into your Google Photos account, but take up no space.

And if anyone wants in on this, just buy a used pixel 1. All photos and videos that upload to Google Photos from a pixel 1 take up no storage space on your account, regardless of what device you used to capture them. It's free lifetime unlimited original quality photo and video cloud storage.

At some point in the future the OS on the original pixel will become too old to run the latest Google photos app, and this loophole will end, but anything you upload until that time is free to store forever.

Did the costco route:

Max 4 lines allowed
No activation fee, $100 shop card per line
Have credit card ready to pay tax for the full price of the phones
Have your old phone IMEI ready - need to be T-Mobile network compatible. I used the decades old 2G phones
Have computer ready to DocuSign the order email
It took me one hour to complete, no hiccups

Pixel 10 has no sim card slot? That means it cannot be unlocked to use overseas by chance?

Their monthly plans are too expensive. If you need unlimited their plan is 50. You can get that for 25 with one of their MVNOs (even cheaper if you pay for a year in advanced from some companies). So this free phone costs you $600 over two years.

We have 10 people on a simple choice plan. I did this with three different phones yesterday (pixel 4, pixel 6, and galaxy s23) and all three worked just fine. it gets you up to 800 off so if you do 9a or 10 you wouldn't be out much but the fold or anything higher would be more...$35 activation which it sounds like some people may have even gotten waived plus tax (on the 9a it was ~30 bucks and on the 10 it was ~60). kind of wonky to get to...i went to the tlife app and selected the phone and tapped 'upgrade' then in the promotions I did the filter and adjusted the filter for google phones then you can see either the 9a or the 10 there $0.00 per month for 24 months. The stipulation is that the trade in phone has to stay on when turned on, it can't have water damage, and it can't have cracks in the screen. the other stipulation that concerned our account is that we can only do 4 out of the 10 lines for this particular promotion.

How did you do your upgrade. I called T-Mobile and they told me I don't have any targeted offers

I logged in on the website, added the phone to my cart, and the offer showed up as an option.

Yes, I successfully took the offer with Magenta. But it might be a targeted offer to those with multiple years of service and multiple lines. I was able to trade in a cracked screen $30 phone for a new Pixel 10 Obsidian 128GB.
edit: sorry, I meant to mention I used the Costco T-Mobile deal to get the $100 gift card and waived $35 activation. I was also able to see the deal in the T-Life app and on the t-mobile website. When I was logged in and selected a Pixel 10, it showed it would cost me $0 /month for 24 months. YOU NEED TO LOGIN to make sure you are eligible. Then it asks which phone to trade in and you can select DIFFERENT DEVICE and throw in any old phone with an IMEI # because it was any phone in any condition. Then it would popup and say $799 Promo trade in for the phone.

This will wear out the storage on the pixel 1. So will kill a 32gb pretty quickly.

You don't actually need to upload from the pixel 1 though, only need to add them to your account from it. This can be done via a sharing link for photos already uploaded to another account.
Can you elaborate on this in more detail, please?

Are you saying that I take my existing modern phone, upload them in full quality, then if I share them via Google Photos some way to an account that has a Pixel 1 active on it, it'll remove them against the cap? So I need to be using two accounts? Or how does this work?

Thank you in advance!

For those who did through Costco, did you call or visit the Tmobile shop within the club? I don't have time to go to the Costco.

This is a good deal, but I don't think my T-Mobile plan is eligible.
