Network Engineer here. I tried this router and it had tons of connectivity issues and random issues with WIFI adaptors dropping and coming back. I would pass.

Didnt tp-link triband wifi 7 go for $100 at Costco in jan 2026? I know its expired and I should have bought (didnt need at the time) but that makes this deal not really that hot?

Highly recommend triband routers if you have automation or lots of iot devices. If I didn't already have an Asus mesh (which I love) I'd consider this one. The bonus perk here is that this router can also hold and warm your baguettes if you put it on your kitchen counter.

Depends if you mind the Chinese PLA having access to your router.

which router and modem would you recommend?

I currently have asus AX5700 for router and ARRIS SURFboard SB8200 DOCSIS 3.1 for modem.

I am having issues with speed even though my plan is 500mbps.

Serious suggestion here, if you are having speed problems you need to first do some troubleshooting to see if the problem is on your home network, your Internet service provider's network, or perhaps whomever they hand off to and peer with.

No amount of money spent will help you if the speed issues are outside your home. Good luck!
