The general recommendation by most people is to go with the cheaper Onn 4k Plus:
The cheaper 4K Plus actually has a newer, more powerful chip — benchmarks show it outperforms the Pro by 35–53% in raw speed, and it even surpasses Google's $100 TV Streamer. Despite having 1GB less RAM, the Plus feels noticeably snappier for everyday tasks like launching apps and navigating the Google TV interface. The Pro's older S905X4 chip debuted in 2019, which also raises some longevity concerns.

Plus is half storage also at 16GB. 4K Pro is reselling for $70 dollars or more for some reason now.
Theres a new onn 4k pro being released. Dont buy outdated tech.
Processor: The standout upgrade is the Amlogic S905X5 (6nm). This fixes the current "gap" where the cheaper Onn 4K Plus actually feels faster than the older Pro. This chip is significantly more powerful and efficient. RAM: Expected to stay at 3GB, though some enthusiasts are holding out hope for 4GB to support new AI features. Storage: Maintaining the 32GB capacity, which remains the best in its price bracket. New & Improved Features Gigabit Ethernet: This is the most anticipated hardware change. The current model's 10/100 Mbps port is a major bottleneck; the 2026 version is rumored to support true Gigabit speeds for local 4K streaming (Plex/Jellyfin). USB-C Power: Moving away from the proprietary barrel plug to a standard USB-C port for power, matching the rest of the 2025/2026 Onn lineup. Gemini AI Integration: The packaging is expected to highlight Google Gemini. The hands-free microphones will likely be optimized for more conversational AI searches and better smart home voice control. Thread/Matter Support: Speculation suggests it may act as a Thread border router, allowing it to control newer smart home devices directly without an extra hub. Release Details Price: Targeted to remain at $49.88. Window: Likely March or April 2026. This coincides with Walmart's annual "Spring Reset" for its electronics departments. Packaging: Leaked reports suggest a "makeover" for the box that prominently features the Gemini logo and the new "Free TV"

The Plus is a better device. Faster processor, smoother playback of extremely high rate 4K HDR content (I'm talking 60GB+ movies in 4K HDR).
The plus has only 2GB RAM, which sucks but you can use "apps only" mode (Settings - Accounts and Profile - Apps Only Mode) and it will reduce the system footprint and you'll have a better and near flawless experience.
@dizzle - thanks for the details regarding the upcoming release of the new ONN Pro Box. I was almost going to buy this one from Ebay but will hold off a few months and await the new model to become available. I have two of the $20 boxes which work well overall, but wish they had a USB port with which to connect a keyboard and mouse to. I tried but did not have good results using an OTG adapter.
