Better solution is when you call to cancel they will transfer you to the retention department so perhaps they can arrange something so that you can get new customer promotions without cancelling the account completely since they are aware people do stuff like this and would rather just keep you on. The retentions team is basically like another sales team since their goal is to keep you on as a customer.
If you have internet/TV service with them and are paying full price (not under any sort of promotion) then probably worth calling in anyway and speaking to retention because they can often offer new customer promotions to you even if you are existing customer. Even beyond the mobile topic of this thread you could potentially save a decent amount.
The other consideration is that from a payment standpoint if you do online you can pay full price with a rewards credit card and then switch the card on your account to a non-rewards card (like debit) for refund. So this can potentially give you additional financial benefit to doing it online versus instore where they just charge you the net amount.
Anyone know if you can trade in to get S26, then cancel the account few days later, and the. Have a family member sign up as new customer with 2 lines and be able to get the $400 customer credit? Also is it possible to sign up for the new customer deal online (internet only) and then go to a store to port in 2 lines + trade?
"$200 Off or FREE with trade-in
New Residential Internet customers who add 2 Unlimited or Unlimited Plus Mobile lines. No trade-in required.
Terms and Conditions
Offer Valid 02/25/2026 - 04/21/2026
RESIDENTIAL INTERNET PREMIER or Higher + 2 MOBILE LINES OFFER: FREE Samsung Galaxy S26 with Trade-in when you buy Internet Premier or higher and two mobile lines, port in a mobile line and sign up for a device payment plan. All trade in terms apply."
This is the deal people are referring to when talking about $400 off, they are talking about getting $200 off two phones on two lines (or they are referring to $400 off the S26+/S26 Ultra which is the other option).
The Spectrum mobile website is just deceptive because they show the price markdown for everybody even those who it does not apply for and does not correct until you start going through checkout.

People who qualify should be able to go to the Spectrum Mobile website and test things out themself adding the necessary lines and items to cart. I do not qualify for the offer so cannot do it because for me the discount goes away after adding to cart.
That is what I selected. Just bought a 2025 from Walmart today and it let me go through the setup no issues. I pulled the Sim card out and still using it on wifi. I went to spectrum today but they said they haven't received stock yet and it should come in by tomorrow. I'll try again and see if they take it. If not it's a really nice phone for $30 perfect for a backup wifi device.
* moto g play 2026 (straight talk) is locked down. Phone is bricked out of the box without activating straight talk plan (was not the case 2025 and earlier).
* back to walmart, got the tracfone moto g 5g ($50) 2024 (moto g 5g is listed for trade in). In-store rep refused the trade, because 2024 isn't called out by year. WTF
* back to walmart, got the tracfone moto g 5g 2025 ($50). in-store reps suspicious now wondering how i own so many moto phones. They are forced to honor the trade this time.
I went to another local store and got my s25 traded to S26 as an upgrade, basically paying $6+taxes on the msrp, total $85. The employee who helped me was a pro, nice and very efficient, and so the entire process was very smooth, done in about 25 minutes.
The new customer extra credit (ex: $400) seems to be a bit of a hearsay even among the employees. Upon my asking, he even went to confirm with his manager, and came back with "the $400 new customer credit is spread over 36 months, and not instant", but what made it bogus was the fact that he was telling the same thing for the $700 promo, but I ended up getting the full $700 as instant credit, I selected "Pay in Full" and basically ended up paying only $85. It seems like most store employees have not yet gone through the new customer promo and they seem pretty unsure of how things will turn out for such customers. Even the terms for the $700 trade in credit does not mention instant credit and it is worded like it's spread for as monthly credits.
I also tested online for a random address that did not have spectrum service; I added $50 internet, one free phone line and then it prompted to make it 2 lines to gain the new customer promo (without specifying the promo amount or the details). Total came out to be $90 monthly ($50 internet + $10 included Advanced Wifi + $30 for 2 lines) + taxes, and option to ship or pickup equipment in store were provided. It seems there's no way to test the $400 new customer promo without actually signing up for internet as new customer.
