i remember last year, people who did pre-order and mailed in their trade-in's were having issues with getting trade-in credit to show on their account, even after 2-3 months. Think i'm gonna go with trade-in at store again for this year.

Managed to get the s26 base. What a trip. in-store reps are indeed mentally challenged.

* moto g play 2026 (straight talk) is locked down. Phone is bricked out of the box without activating straight talk plan (was not the case 2025 and earlier).

* back to walmart, got the tracfone moto g 5g ($50) 2024 (moto g 5g is listed for trade in). In-store rep refused the trade, because 2024 isn't called out by year. WTF

* back to walmart, got the tracfone moto g 5g 2025 ($50). in-store reps suspicious now wondering how i own so many moto phones. They are forced to honor the trade this time.
Glad it worked out, although it is strange that trade-in list only has the following options for Moto G 5g:

MOTO G 5G
MOTO G 5G 2022
MOTO G 5G 2025
MOTO G 5G 2026

I wonder what the "MOTO G 5G" without the year listed is suppose to be since they have 2022 available for trade-in so both 2023 and 2024 should also be available. When I select MOTO G 5G without the year listed it gives option to then select 64gb or 128gb and as far as I can tell the 64gb option was only available for the 2023 year and not 2024, so maybe it is suppose to be 2023.

Walked in to add a new line (by the GB, let the sale rep to get their commission), I traded in Moto G 5G 2025 that I got from Walmart for S26. Out the door price was $205. The entire process was about 30 minutes. I will port out after 1 month.

You don't want the S26 sim unlocked?

wootWent to the Spectrum store this morning and traded in my Flip7 for an S26 Ultra.
They ended up giving me $895 for the Flip7 and gave me an addtional $40 off my existing Spectrum internet for a year!

This is the 3rd year in a row that they've absolutely hooked me up with freebies (last year was a free mobile line) - Pretty happy with everything

Already have another line, just need to switch the sim card from the other line to this S26 after I port out. I have done this many times since the S24 promotion.

The instore employees do not always hook people up but what you are describing are customer retention offers (they have an entire retention department if you call in to cancel service). Usually they last 1 year (such as discount on the internet) and basically what they are doing is giving offers similar to new customer offers to existing customers. So you might want to check your Spectrum account if you go to try to add a new line (it might be free) or if you terminate your current line (such as after you get phone unlocked) it might then give you another free year.

I say this from experience because what happened was my 1 year of free mobile was ending from a previous promotion and I called in to cancel the line and they transferred me to the retention department. What they ended up doing was giving me a new promotion for my other Spectrum services and terminated my mobile line and then next billing cycle I was able to setup a new line with another 1 year free offer.

I went to another local store and got my s25 traded to S26 as an upgrade, basically paying $6+taxes on the msrp, total $85. The employee who helped me was a pro, nice and very efficient, and so the entire process was very smooth, done in about 25 minutes.

The new customer extra credit (ex: $400) seems to be a bit of a hearsay even among the employees. Upon my asking, he even went to confirm with his manager, and came back with "the $400 new customer credit is spread over 36 months, and not instant", but what made it bogus was the fact that he was telling the same thing for the $700 promo, but I ended up getting the full $700 as instant credit, I selected "Pay in Full" and basically ended up paying only $85. It seems like most store employees have not yet gone through the new customer promo and they seem pretty unsure of how things will turn out for such customers. Even the terms for the $700 trade in credit does not mention instant credit and it is worded like it's spread for as monthly credits.

I also tested online for a random address that did not have spectrum service; I added $50 internet, one free phone line and then it prompted to make it 2 lines to gain the new customer promo (without specifying the promo amount or the details). Total came out to be $90 monthly ($50 internet + $10 included Advanced Wifi + $30 for 2 lines) + taxes, and option to ship or pickup equipment in store were provided. It seems there's no way to test the $400 new customer promo without actually signing up for internet as new customer.
oops, never mind. Thanks

$40 off a month? How much were you paying for your internet? Did you have to pay tax on the full MSRP? Still trying to find out the tax for the trade in in store for NY.
Thanks

Base internet price where I live with Spectrum has gone up around 100% just over the past decade, from around $40 to now above $80. They have been bumping up the price around $5 per year, which is pretty insane. Just for base internet, not even middle or premium tier. Most of the retention offers that I have heard are similar at about $40 off bringing it to around $40/month (similar to new customer offers). I for sure would not be using Spectrum if it was not for retention offers especially since competitors such as fiber have been popping up at lower prices.

I did search one of the S25 threads from last year for your for "New York" and it appears people at that time people were saying in NY tax is just on the net total (i.e. minus trade-in). Here is one of the relevant comments:

Although New York seems to like to take more and more taxes in any way possible each year so who knows what laws may have changed over the past year.

How would they even know what year the Moto is without you telling them? You could have said any year and they would have accepted your word.

They have a protocol they follow for trade-ins that includes verifying the model. They do not just take people's word for the model of phone. For Moto G 5g the year is basically the equivalent as S part of Galaxy. You cannot just walk in and say you are handing in a S25 when it is really an S23, same as not being able to walk in saying you have a Moto G 5g (2025) when it is a Moto G 5g (2023).

Some employees don't care what year the phone is as long as it says the name of the phone that's listed. My Moto G 5G (2025) didn't have the year on there (just "Moto G 5G" in the setting) so they just picked the regular Moto G 5G instead of the one with the years on it. As long as it passes their inspection (clean IMEI, screens all working) it's all good.

I just got two today from my local store. No hassle...took around 45min in and out.

Thank you for the answer. Last year the tax was only on the net total. Since then several people have reported the tax in NY Is on the full msrp. So far no one on this particular deal. Thanks

Yes. Delivered Tuesday and got a second reminder about the trade in though it's delivered already. Will wait for a few more days.
