I just got two today from my local store. No hassle...took around 45min in and out.
There have actually been reports of trade-in credits being retroactively adjusted or denied when Assurant evaluates the device after being received from Spectrum (not just mailed in from online purchases but processed at Spectrum store). Assurant has an agreement with Spectrum to allow credit to be applied in-store but Assurant is still evaluating and verifying the trade-in once received from Spectrum.
In some cases like Moto G 5G (2025) and Moto G 5G the trade-in amount may be the same or less if they select Moto G 5G instead of Moto G 5G (2025) and in such a case even if there was a discrepancy then obviously it would not matter to Spectrum/Assurant since if anything you are receiving the same or less than if it was entered correctly.

Obviously you can't get away with trading in a Moto and then inputting as iPhone, but these Moto phones are a dime in a dozen and there are far too many models which makes it confusing in the first place. If Assurant truly cared that much about which model of Moto they're getting from the Spectrum employees, I think we would have heard a lot more in store issues from users because many Spectrum employees tend to be inept and they would be inputting the wrong models constantly.
That's why the employees use a new verification system that Spectrum requires but as long as the verification goes through, I would imagine that the instant credit you get is the final billing and not have to worry about future charges.
That's my 2cent but I can understand why some of you guys would be way more cautious. Just sharing my experience.

yeah, that previous person is ignorant so ignore them. They dont readust in store as its one and done. I've done over 20 phones with spectrum over past 3 years.

Online it happens more often because people are self-selecting devices and condition and can make mistakes entering IMEI number and there is no system checking before accepting like instore so chances of mistake and rejection are significantly more common.
You can certainly call and ask Spectrum/Assurant yourself to go over the terms of the trade-in and process with you.

I did more mail in then in store but I did have a problem once couple years ago. Fighting for that sucked.

You can certainly call and ask Spectrum/Assurant yourself to go over the terms of the trade-in and process with you if you need clarification about how they confirm device identity and Assurant's role once Spectrum store sends the device in.
IIRC, you argued with me last year as well about the mail in trade in taking too long and when I told you to be patient, you were throwing a fit about the return window closing if anything went wrong. In the end though, you got your credit and the process went without any issue no?
Honestly, I think you're thinking way too deeply about this but whatever. Good luck if you're trying in store I guess.

Just because a mistake has not happened to you or you do not fully understand what is happening on the backend does not mean that they do not happen. You can certainly call and ask Spectrum/Assurant yourself to go over the terms of the trade-in and process with you if you need clarification about how they confirm device identity and Assurant's role once Spectrum store sends the device in.
