Was S26 to 17e worth it?
that was a bad trade... so essentially, you lost $300-$400 in cash value alone when the s26 gets unlocked (and sold locally) plus the taxes paid on the difference between the cost of 17 and trade in value

They wanted an iPhone 17 for personal use, not to resell.
And not everybody wants to sell their S26 on e-bay or "locally" in 60 days and you are insane if you think you are going to be putting $730-830 net in your pocket in 60 days after you unlock it if that is what you are implying with your $300-400 lost comment.
Even the trade-in price from Assurant has already dropped from $430 to $405 just one week after launch.

Hopefully in 1 year it at least retains a bit more value than the S25 even if in the short term it does not.

because I got s26 first, I was able to save about $330 to get the iPhone 17.
if I went for iPhone 17 directly without taking advantage of $700+ trade in promo, I would have spent [899.99-100(trade in promo)-7(trade in device)] * 1.09(9% tax rate)=$904.69 total
with s26 trade in, I spent about $570, which saved me about $330.
I used the true IMEI of my spectrum S26. Wish me good luck!

It seems they have quietly allow trading in S26 for the promotion again. I wasn't allowed last weekend.

It seems Spectrum's S26 is tied to IMEI 1, which is what they usually use for any trades and activations. If you use IMEI 2, that usually is not tied to anything, and hence looks like a new to Spectrum device. Spectrum website gets fooled, and you may be able to place the order, but I'm guessing, when they appraise the used S26, they will likely use IMEI 1, and know that it's already a Spectrum customer phone, and may realize you were trying to fool the system, and they may remove the $700 credit. It's a risk I'm not willing to take. Maybe if we can persuade a store employee to appraise/diagnose the used S26 using MEI 2, then maybe there's a chance one might get the additional $700+ $405 trade in value.
