i remember last year, people who did pre-order and mailed in their trade-in's were having issues with getting trade-in credit to show on their account, even after 2-3 months. Think i'm gonna go with trade-in at store again for this year.
I just traded in s26 for iphone 17, they gave me $430+100 for s26 trade in value towards the iphone 17
Damn, I was going to do that, but took longer contemplating whether s26 to iphone 17E was a wise choice, and I went to local store yesterday evening and they trade in value for s26 went down by about $25. Now it's valued at $405. Also, store later mentioned 17e was out of stock.

that was a bad trade... so essentially, you lost $300-$400 in cash value alone when the s26 gets unlocked (and sold locally) plus the taxes paid on the difference between the cost of 17 and trade in value

You are incorrect. They received $430 trade in value for the S26. They netted over $200 by going through S26 rather than trading in their original device for iPhone 17 directly.
They wanted an iPhone 17 for personal use, not to resell.
And not everybody wants to sell their S26 on e-bay or "locally" in 60 days and you are insane if you think you are going to be putting $730-830 net in your pocket in 60 days after you unlock it if that is what you are implying with your $300-400 lost comment.
Even the trade-in price from Assurant has already dropped from $430 to $405 just one week after launch.

Was S26 to 17e worth it?
Only 1 week and already loose 6% trade-in value???

Similar happened last year. Even being unable to trade in S26 for S26 people are trading them in for other devices and so the value drops. The worst part is that the S26 has been given a value similar to S25 last year even though the cost/MSRP is $100 higher.
Hopefully in 1 year it at least retains a bit more value than the S25 even if in the short term it does not.

no, there is no way I lost 300-400 in cash value. I spent around $200 for s26 with initially, to get it unlocked with 20$/month plan, it will be $240. there is no way you will be able to sell s26 for 540~640 in May or June.
because I got s26 first, I was able to save about $330 to get the iPhone 17.
if I went for iPhone 17 directly without taking advantage of $700+ trade in promo, I would have spent [899.99-100(trade in promo)-7(trade in device)] * 1.09(9% tax rate)=$904.69 total
with s26 trade in, I spent about $570, which saved me about $330.
Just placed an order, trade-in my spectrum S26 for another spectrum S26, it shows "Trade-In Value ($405.00) + Spectrum Promotion ($700.00)" all the way to the order was placed. I printed webpage to PDFs as evidence.
I used the true IMEI of my spectrum S26. Wish me good luck!

It seems they have quietly allow trading in S26 for the promotion again. I wasn't allowed last weekend.
Interesting, thanks for the update. Maybe that is why they lowered the trade-in amount today. Will wait for somebody to confirm the $700 bonus credits before doing myself (since Assurant wont return devices once accepted) but this is promising. Answer will probably come quickest from somebody who tries in store.

I think I know what you did
It seems Spectrum's S26 is tied to IMEI 1, which is what they usually use for any trades and activations. If you use IMEI 2, that usually is not tied to anything, and hence looks like a new to Spectrum device. Spectrum website gets fooled, and you may be able to place the order, but I'm guessing, when they appraise the used S26, they will likely use IMEI 1, and know that it's already a Spectrum customer phone, and may realize you were trying to fool the system, and they may remove the $700 credit. It's a risk I'm not willing to take. Maybe if we can persuade a store employee to appraise/diagnose the used S26 using MEI 2, then maybe there's a chance one might get the additional $700+ $405 trade in value.
