As someone who has flashed linksys routers with both openwrt and tomato (before all the forks) many many years ago, the installation procedure for this now looks so convoluted. Trying to figure out how to do it before buying... you basically need to know how to code/script with all this spotty documentation/instructions.
Looks like either method 2 or method 3 is applicable to this router. Sorry, I don't own this model to tell for sure.

does the ln1301 (mx4300) have a mature openwrt or ddwrt offering now?
What do I need to do to use this as a Wifi extender? Can I use 2 for even more coverage? Am I better off getting the E8450 that someone else mentioned for $14?

According to a post on Reddit, it doesn't connect to other brands wirelessly, with stock firmware.
