These Osprey bags are great. I bought a hiking backpack from a slickdeal and impressed at the quality. Also, I went to UNF. Go Osprey's! lol!

It's been this price forever. It was $99 during the holidays. This is the last gen model and they're being cleared out.

Yup, still a great bag & price though. I bought this the other month to replace my Porter 46. While the Porter has way more pockets this thing is way more comfortable on my back and still manages to fit nearly the same amount of stuff.

I bought the Farpoint 40 in 2019 from eBags for $112 as a college sophomore to backpack around southeast Asia and have been using for every trip since then (at least once a year.) Never had to use the lifetime warranty, never had any airline made me check it in, and the frame absolutely amazing even when my backpack was 40lbs+. Only gripe is the front net pockets to hold the water bottle which it will almost always fall out unless your bottle has a hole that you can then use the Farpoint strap to loop through.

Curious.. Why are you replacing the porter 46? I've had mine since 2014.. Still works great!

Has anyone used /own sizes larger than 40L? How is the comfort of the backpack for taller people?

The 55L is almost the same as the 40L. It is has the same 40L + 15L backpack that attaches to it. However, the main difference is that the 40L from the 55L is missing the laptop sleeve, a small top pocket, and outside mesh sleeves that the standalone 40L has. The assumption is that people will put their laptop and travel accessories in the 15L (which has a laptop sleeve, outside mesh pocket, and top pocket). Because of this, I bought the 40L because I value putting my laptop and travel docs in the main bag, and bought the 15L separately as an add-on.
Comfort wise I can't say for tall people, I am 5'9" and I find it pretty comfortable. The back is stiff and is adjustable to different torso lengths. If you have gone backpacking, it has similar adjustments for the backpack straps, chest straps, and waist straps which help with load distribution. The biggest factor is how you pack, you should aim to put heavy things low and close to your back. When carrying the 15L + 40L as a single backpack, the 15L can stick a little far out, so I avoid putting heavy things in there.

it's not exactly the same. They've redesigned it a few times since then.

Anyone considering this should know that this is the previous gen. The latest iteration has a top loading laptop sleeve.
