Get some compression packing cubes to go with it as there isn't a whole lot of organization in the large center compartment.
Epicka has this package of compression cubes for $40. https://www.amazon.com/EPICKA-Tri...B0F4RF2PV
Personally, I used this set of two from Thule https://www.amazon.com/Thule-3204...09NL9BWK

Not much has changed — the laptop compartment moved from the side to the top, and the brand ditched the bright color options for a cleaner, all-white base across models. They also refreshed the color names: Cascade Blue–Torrent Blue, Sawdust Tan, Black, and Antique Blue.

I used the 55 (40L + 15L day pack) together for a trip traveling around the UK last year -- my 18 year old opted for a wheeled suitcase. I had a much easier time on cobbled streets, going up stairs, getting on trains, etc. Yes, I had to carry it all on my back, but I wouldn't change it.
The bag *does* stick out a lot when fully stuffed and the daypack strapped on, but it was a great setup. I stowed the 40L in the overhead while flying and detached the daypack to go under seat, and had a daypack to carry my stuff when we were in one place for a couple of days.
The one downside to the daypack (imo) is that it opens from the top and (aside from the lid) is just one big open compartment. Other than that, I loved using this bag.

A couple of notes, though. I'm 5'11" with a long(ish) torso, and it doesn't quite fit perfectly for me. In order to have the waist strap set correctly the shoulder straps have to be a bit loose (and the sternum strap is then a little high on my chest). Also, the laptop area is on the outside of the backpack, which makes it a bit weird if you have a lot of clothes.
But overall I can't recommend this enough. It's absolutely fantastic, fits in every overhead bin and airlines usually don't bat an eye even if they've started forcing people to gate-check their roller-bags.
Pack Hackers made a video reviewing the Fairview: https://www.packhacker.
That said, everyone is built differently, and sometimes folks prefer the bag intended for the opposite gender. I don't think there are HUGE differences, but if you have shoulder straps that are chafing at underarms/breasts, a sternum strap that's awkwardly positioned for your anatomy, weight distributed too narrowly at shoulders, a waistbelt that restricts movement, it can make a big difference in how much you're enjoying your trip.

The standalone 40L comes with a laptop sleeve in the main bag. The 55L combo 40L bag does NOT have a side-loading laptop sleeve, as the laptop sleeve is in the smaller daypack. However, the 55 40L has side organization pockets in the main bag which are missing in the standalone 40L.
My wife and I both use this bag for international travel. I travel for work so I bought the 40L standalone because I travel with a laptop constantly. She chose the 55L combo because she rarely bring a laptop. Just be aware.
Great price for a great bag (also has a great warranty, but haven't used it yet)
