This TCL 55 inch QLED is a budget 4K Google TV that stands out for strong value, decent picture and brightness, and support for Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. The price has also shown up at $223 in store and online, below the posted $248. Motion handling is only average, and the built in Google TV interface gets criticized as slow and cluttered compared with Roku. Reliability concerns also come up, including software lockups and hard to fix failures over time. A solid low cost media room option if the tradeoffs are acceptable.
Common Questions (5)
The deal can ring up at $223 both online and in-store, even though the post shows $248. That lower price makes the set an even stronger budget buy if it appears in your cart or at checkout.
The built-in Google TV interface can feel slow and cluttered, and some prefer Roku for a simpler experience. A streaming stick can bypass the TV's processor and apps if you want a smoother interface.
The picture and brightness are decent for the price, and Dolby Vision plus Dolby Atmos are strong extras for movies and a media room. Motion tracking is not as good as higher-end sets, so it is more of a value TV than a Sony Bravia-level performer.
Some TCL sets are reported to fail within about 3 years with software loop issues, and Walmart-specific SKUs can complicate price matching, exchanges, or TCL support. A Costco TCL 55-inch was also mentioned with a 5-year warranty for about $50 more, which may be worth considering for longer coverage.
It is listed as a 60Hz TV, so it is not the 120Hz option some shoppers want for smoother motion. That makes it better as a budget 4K/HDR set than a high-refresh gaming display.

TCL Roku sucks ass. Mine has a banner on all the time to disconnect USB power to the Roku device. There is no USB - it's integrated, which means the TV is trash. Apparently this happens a LOT. google it. Piece of crap.

I want it to look good as it is going to be my primary TV for watching netlfix and playing the occcasional Switch 2 or PS4 game but also it's for an apartment I don't plan in living forever in (small space so much bigger than a 55" wouldn't make too much sense). I'm trying to stay aorund this $250 price range but of course want the best bang for my buck. HELP ME SLICKDEALERS!!
1) Failure rate within 3 years is nearly 100%. Always seems to be a software death loop. Had some success with warranty, but it was a pain.
2) The Walmart ones (usually) have their own sku, so you can't price match, or exchange, or even return to TCL for support sometimes. Just buyer beware. For the price, though...

Complete and utter garbage.
The TV comes on about once every 4 months or so, and then the Roku interface just shows cluttered ads.
Don't listen to the astroturfing on here that mention nothing about these flawed machines but just slag on GTV.
