Idk how to tell yall. BUT DO NOT
EVER BUY ANY USED / OPEN BOX AirPods. 80% of them are scams and I have been scammed thru the AirPods Pros 3 thru EBay and BEST BUY. Best Buy initially didn't approve my refund and I had to argue with BEST BUY to get a refund as the IMEI on the AirPods was different than the box, as people buy new AirPods and swap them with fake ones. Trust me spend the extra $50-100 and get the real official brand new pair and save yourself a favor in the future.

Had an issue with these where one of the buds was swapped out with one from another case. Totally unusable and Apple couldn't help - ended up returning & just buying direct from them.

Mine had tips still in the original packaging and warranty active on the associated serial number until November 27, 2026. This can be faked but it also has a functioning heartbeat sensor and is updated to the latest firmware, neither of which would be likely or maybe even possible in a counterfeit.
Everything else checked out. Seems I saved $100 on basically new.

As they are now, it's not technically a product hardware issue so they wouldn't qualify from Apple at least for warranty just because of the pairing issue.

Three telltale signs of fakes: 1) The FindMy doesn't work right 2) you can toggle on/off the noise cancelling and transparency but it doesn't make an audible difference 3) firmware update doesn't stick.

Counterfeit Airpods and even counterfeit iPhones today are very convincing and very common. The packaging and finish are almost perfect. If you don't already know what to look for, you might not realize you bought a fake for hours or days.

In the previous thread a user was able to get them swapped out by apple by opening a case and providing all purchase info. Might be worth a shot.

It was a gamble but got a pair yesterday no issue with receiving a fake pair I do like that compared to my 4s with anc and my twos the call quality is better would say just pair in store and verify serial numbers before leaving or have apple genius verify validity

I got in on this deal and got an "excellent" condition item. What arrived was a scratched up case, no box, and when I brought it to Best Buy to return they said the serial number did not match the invoice and denied my return. Had to open a case with corporate. Total nightmare, either someone made a mistake at shipping or some sales associate decided they wanted a newer unit. I'd never buy an open box again!

I learned this the hard way yesterday. Serial number didn't match and now I've opened a case with corporate.
