Obviously more expensive because they charge tax on full price of phone but had no nonsense fees etc which was nice and the prior deal is dead anyways
Only way to prove that the software is wrong is for the Genius Bar technicians to open up the phone and confirm that no hardware was changed.
My worry here is that if the technician opened it up and still claims that the phone was modified, then I'm stuck with an opened phone, which can be very hard to resell or trade in at other carriers or retailers. Note that the phone was an iPhone 15, brand new sealed from Boost, delivered 1 week prior. I cut my loss of time wasting at the Apple store and traded to Best Buy for $440 for the Pixel 10a. Better deal anyway since Apple was only given me $310 for that phone.
You might get an easy manager who will ask the genius tech to override it without opening up the phone like langkhack reported here.
However, what surprised me the most was that I was also able to setup an online account today using the phone number for my other 16e phone that I purchased at my local Cricket store yesterday which perplexes me.
Also as a side note, you're given a default username which happens to be a string of random letters and numbers. For example, mine was "gfa9c5h7ttu5q" on my first iPhone 16e which would be really hard to remember and from what I can tell there's no way to change it: https://www.cricketwire
I used the forgot username and password to recover my online logins for the online account. For in store, the rep handed me the password and told me to use my phone number to login to the myCricket app. Inside the app, I found the randomly generated username similar to yours.

5 iPhone 11 from Metro:
4 passed, 1 failed first run with Apple internal MRI (Mobile Resource Inspector). The tech re-run the failed one and it was passed on the second run. All 5 were accepted.
MRI can be accessed using these instructions: https://support.apple.c
1 iPhone 15 from Boost:
Failed with Apple new web-based Smart Assessment MRI. Unauthorized modifications error. MRI was run at a different Apple Store. Same results. Tech told me serial is already saved on Apple server, so the results will be the same no matter where I go.
I performed phone internal MRI at home. All diagnostics passed, including the battery, with no error showing unauthorized modification. I documented the whole process, but Apple wouldn't even look at them. They only trust what's done in store by their employees.
4 iPhone 16e from Metro:
3 passed, 1 failed on the first run with Apple web-based Smart Assessment. Tech told me to try online trade-in. Based on my previous experiences, I didn't argue and just take the phone back. I will wait to trade in at another retailer.
5 iPhone 16e from Cricket:
All passed and accepted.
