I currently I have an S24 Ultra. I got $800 value for it. My warranty just ran out on my phone and I abuse the heck out of it - hiking, mountain biking, adventuring, etc. Honestly the upgrade between it and this one isn't insane, but I'm buying to get 2 more years of accidental coverage through Monthly Best Buy Protection (up to 24 months. Preordered one at best buy few days ago. Unlike many, I'm on an older fold and had a spectrum 256gb s24u as a back up. No brainer to do a trade in and get 890 off immediately for 512gb s26u. Its unlocked and doesn't come with some bloatware from spectrum. Is a good deal for me but maybe not for others.

Guys, is there a way to not pay the tax on the full amount? Because bestbuy is charging me tax on top of 1299, Samsung just tax on top of difference between the phone and trade in, but isn't offering upgrade of memory 😭 I'm in Florida

I just got it in the mail today (Google Fi pre-order). First impressions before even powering it up are not great. They cheapened it compared to last year's model. The screen AR coating is not as good, the aluminum sides are now all black instead of the nice champagne color of last year's model and the stylus button squeaks like a cheap dollar store pen. It also doesn't sit quite flush when fulIy inserted and sticks out a bit. Last year's stylus was of much higher quality. I might return this phone before I even power it up. It kind of sucks. None of the reviewers brought any of this up, except to downplay what regular people were saying online. Samsung, shame on you.

This might be a state thing? At least it seems to be for California. All my Samsung.com purchases were always taxed full amount pre trade in Frown

Samsung gives you an instant trade-in credit. So you're being charged with the trade taken into account. Best Buy, on the other hand, is charging your credit card before the trade-in is taken into account. Once Best buy receives your valid trade in, they give you a refund for the trade amount. That refund will include tax charged previously. In short, Samsung is giving you the benefit up front and Best Buy is giving you the benefit on the back end.

This situation differs from instances where Samsung charges some people tax without taking the trade in into account and other people get taxed on the discounted amount. That is where state law kicks in. Some states simply do not grant tax forgiveness when there's a trade-in involved.

i'll stick with s24 ultra for another year. s26 is very underwhelming with no battery upgrade, minimal camera/gpu/cpu upgrade. really not worth 800 bucks after trade in. hopefully s27 has better hardware + battery

Yep. Unfortunately, every year the promos get worse as T-Mobile comes out with a new plan and reduces promos on older plans.
They've had 5 new plans in the last year.
My One plan now gets $500 off an S26 with top tier trade in. I only get phones from them now when it's a targeted promo like the recent $630 off iphone with any condition trade, or the $800 off Pixel deal.

No battery upgrade? It's not all about battery capacity. Better CPU and larger vapor chamber is leading to real life improvements. Generally, in the 15 to 20% range.

You're gonna see the same tech upgrades in the 27. It's the usual yearly gpu/cpu upgrades and the same battery they've had for 5 years now. I'm still on an s22u but the battery is rough so probably giving in to the 26 and Best Buy has the best offer since Samsung isn't doing free memory upgrades.

Btw be careful. Best buy can reject your trade in if the color of your device doesn't match i believe. Sucks cos my color isn't in drop down list

I should clarify that I did my trade in store. Instead of shipping it out and hoping Samsung takes it or the phone gets there, I was able to get it evaluated right there and instantly get my credit. Out of the door, my s26u was 563 with tax. They had to confirm that it was okay for them to take my phone right there and then.
