I don't understand these portable pumps that have an auto shut off. But the cord is not long enough to reach the nipple if the tire is rotated where it is on the top. Unless you have a box or something to set it on, do you have to stand there the whole time holding it while it fills the tire.

Yes that's kind of annoying. The one I own is light enough to hang off the valve stem without damaging anything. Most of the time I get lucky and the tire is oriented low enough for it to sit still and it just rolls around a bit while inflating.
