If E4 appears right when you hit Start (not later in the cycle), the dryer is basically flagging a temperature/heat start fault: it either does not see a valid thermistor reading, thinks the lid is open, or cannot begin heating correctly.
Fast checks to try
- Turn it off, unplug for 10–30 seconds, plug back in, then try again; several users report E4 disappearing after a full power reset.
- Make sure the lid is fully seated before you press Start; E4 can be thrown if it thinks the lid is open when heating begins.
- Start with one spool only, at a low temp (around 45–50 °C) using a manual program instead of a high‑temp preset like ABS/ASA; heavy or dual spools plus high temp can make it fail its initial heat‑up check.
If it still throws E4 immediately- Check that the home screen shows a sane room temperature before you start; if it already shows E4/EA or a nonsense temp, Creality's own debug steps point to a thermistor or board issue.
- If the displayed temp does not rise at all when you start heating, support recommends checking for loose thermistor wiring or replacing the mainboard; Creality has been sending replacement boards for persistent E4 on Space Pi units.
