The cheapest fooodsavers are the best option for these bag sealers. No need to spend over $35 or $40 and be frustrated with the automatic features that don't work.
I've been doing sous vide for a while using Ziploc bags, but now that I'm getting serious about meal prep, especially keto meals, I'm wondering if it's finally time to invest in a vacuum sealer. Does anyone notice a big difference in convenience or food quality compared to just using bags?

Yes, very much so. I'll buy in 'bulk' (multiple units on sale, larger packs), pre-season, freeze, then throw them right in the S-V out of the freezer. Vacuum sealing them keeps the meat a lot 'fresher' (less freezer burn, etc.)

If you're really prepping things for sous vide ahead of time, especially to freeze, a good vacuum sealer will help. But I think to make it worth it. You need to be preparing 5 to 10 meals at a time.

So true. I've had the same food saver for many years. I get generic 50ft rolls on Amazon and split them in have so they fit in my foodsaver tray

I have both, for different reasons. I use Ziplock bags for things for the fridge, short term stuff, and a lot for things like coating veggies in olive oil, marinating, and such.
I use vacuum sealing for longer term items, nearly anything in I'm putting in the freezer. Air is the enemy of foods, and it is what cases freezer burn. Vacuum sealing means the foods live longer in the freezer. I like to buy meats and seafood in bulk and freezing it in individual servings. This saves me money on the foods and means I have easy meal prep.
If you are doing sous vide, then you definitely want the vacuum bags.

Yes it's worth it. If you buy your meat in bulk, you can season it before sealing it and freeze it. Then just toss it in the sous vide straight from the freezer, no need to thaw it out.
