Gerber was bought out decades ago, it's not the same as some people remember it - this of course happens with many brands. Also the thing they are more known for at least today seems to be the multitools. Look up knife enthusiasts impression, it will be very different from the general publics impression and reputation. You won't find anyone saying they're good anymore.
These models use cheap 7cr17 steel, 8cr13 is considered basic entry level so it's a step down from that. There's a reason they don't advertise that and just say "stainless" which is a big red flag for a big brand. Also note "stainless steel" or even "high carbon stainless" is pretty much meaningless, it's like a food product claiming high protein when it only has 11 grams per servings as opposed to 20+ in others.
Bad customer service. I had one knife where they didn't have a part to, (thumbstud) they first sent a completely different knife which a blind person might be able to tell, aside from the model name right on the box, finally they sent me another one with the stud but it was obviously used and stiff AF, so after many months (~6) I could take the stud off the used one and put it on the original but there is no reason why any competent human being actually able to communicate should take this long to resolve a straight forward request. Keep this in mind for the lifetime warranty, because you may need a lifetime to get service.
There is a good history with Gerber in the distant past, but most people never address anything specific on these forums and are just defending the brand based on their general impression while not getting paid by Gerber for it.
