The M5 was released in the 14" MacBook Pro in October 2025. The M5 Pro and M5 Max were announced last week and released this week.

On Black Friday I got the M5 24gb/1TB for $1749. Blows my mind that 4 months later it's already even cheaper. Yeah the M5 Pro released but I didn't know the price would drop THAT quick.

Is the Pro screen that much better than the Air screen to justify the price difference?

If you are doing things that require color accuracy yes. Also the 120Hz is a big deal for smoothness. But if you haven't ever used a ProMotion display you won't miss it.

(just a note...the M5 released a week ago..so I'm guessing you meant you bought the M4...not the M5. And there is a difference between the M5 chip and the M5 Pro. This is a just a lowly m5 chip in the Macbook Pro "case".
Yeah, I'm talking about the MacBook Pro M5. The M5 Pro chip is overkill for my needs so I didn't wait. Just surprised you can get it for $1600 now just a few months later

Even if you didn't ever use ProMotion difference is huge. It's like iPhone vs iPhone Pro- for me huge difference

"Better sound" is irrelevant -- almost any mediocre set of headphones will GREATLY outperform even the best laptop speakers.

Headphones are completely irrelevant if you don't carry/want to wear headphones.

Decent deal. But out of stock and they have no replenishment date in the system.

The screen quality alone is nice but probably isn't the make it or break it factor when deciding between Air (13 or 15") or Pro (14"), unless you low color accuracy (Air screen is good enough for most people) and refresh rate.
Size of the screen (13" air less, 14 pro medium, 15 air more)
Weight and thickness
CPU / GPU Power requirement (more power, shorter battery life, requires fan vs fanless)
Pro has better camera and speakers

I've always been the type to want more features but this time went with a 15" air. I already have powerful workstations and wanted something I can use portably and quickly dock between offices. No regrets as the air is powerful enough, awesome battery, noiseless, and the extra inch (15" vs 14") makes content easier on my old eyes.
