FYI:
It features 8GB of DDR4 RAM soldered to the motherboard and includes one empty DDR4 SO-DIMM slot. You can add a 16GB or 32GB module to the empty slot, allowing for a total memory capacity of up to 40GB.

I've bought several VivoBook, and they've all had some issues.

What kind of issues? I just bought it since I needed a beater laptop for certain tasks my MacBook couldn't do. I have some spare nvme and ram sitting around that will bump it up quite nicely. Will probably run Linux on it. Praying it will play nice with it.

refurb thinkpads would be better choice as beater imo.

Doesn't have USB-C charging or USB-C video output, no touchscreen, 128GB SSD is not a lot for a windows PC.
Unless, you're someone technical who plans to upgrade the RAM and SSD vs someone just looking for a very basic laptop, an ASUS Chromebook Plus is actually a better choice at this price point in my opinion.

I have purchased several different versions of ASUS Vivobooks and all have been workhorses. My 2 college aged sons have put them through the wringer and they haven't failed.

I have had mine for little over a year. No issues yet. I bought one for the same reason, so it's used lightly for basic tasks. I would recommend it at the sales price if it's not going to be your primary laptop.

Asus Vivobook vs Acer Aspire vs Acer Swift Go.. Acer users were telling to buy vivobook and Asus users say to buy Acer.. I'm confused. Any suggestions?

I bought this back in December and its been solid. I did add an extra 8gb stick of ram, but honestly it really wasn't needed for basic tasks. I run a few spreadsheets, word docs, and a bunch of tabs on chrome and it is smooth.

I think the option to upgrade the memory if needed makes this a good deal. I have a 12 year old ASUS laptop (not Vivobook) that is still in use for basic functions.

This spec is still sufficient and fast enough for almost 95% home users even in 2026. If YouTube and Netflix is working fine, nobody complain.

I have multiple laptops in my household, including the previous version of this Vivobook, other Vivobooks, an Acer Swift Go and an Acer Swift X. I have had no problems with any of them.

I've mentioned this before on here, but the reality is that almost all laptop brands have their machines designed and made for them by a few ODMs (original design manufacturers), and brands typically use more than one ODM. Every brand name therefore has some variability - some lines are better than others within a brand, but overall, each brand that you've heard of is, on average, of about the same quality, and a particular laptop from one company may have more in common with another company's laptop (if they used the same ODM), than with other lines in the same company (if they used different ODMs).

Bottom line is there are very good and less good laptops from every brand.
This laptop is a good deal for its price. It's upgradeable, and more than sufficient for what 95% of people do 95% of the time on a laptop. It's also easy to pick up USB-C adapters that will allow you to charge the laptop via USB-C. Here's a two-pack for $7.99:

I got a refurb Core 5 120u version with 16 GB RAM and 512 GB SSD for $235 a couple months ago, but this is pretty good for a new if you're in a rush, and maybe if you've got extra RAM and SSD handy. My only complaint with these Vivobooks is the fans get a little loud even under modest load.

I know a lot of people don't like the barrel chargers and prefer USB-C, but speaking as someone with a wife and 4 kids, USB-C chargers get moved and go missing all the time. So no USB-C charging is a plus to me!

Why are there so few touchscreen laptops at a good price these days? I really would like to have a touchscreen.
