Nice & quiet for air brushing (painting) models or brad/pin nailing, or topping off tires with air

They make a 3 gallon version and its only 2 more decibels (60dB). Never looked to see if they have refurbs of it. Makita MAC320Q Quiet Series 1-1/2 HP, 3 Gallon.

This is pretty much what I use it for. It sits on a shelf in the garage most of the time, but it's super convenient to throw in the car with a couple nailers if I need to do some work somewhere else. You're only going to get a handful of shots on a framing nailer before the motor starts up again (maybe 7 or 8), but you can use it for 15-23 guage guns about as fast as you would ever need to. Obviously not going to be enough cfm for air tools or real painting, but plenty for model painting or pressurizing a pressure pot.

I use it frequently for car and bike tires too. If I'm too lazy to hook up a long hose or daisy chain shorter ones and don't want pull the car in close, I'll just pressurize it, unplug it, and take it to the car on the street. It's light enough to make that an easy task. The only thing I could use more air for in my garage would be to blow out dust, etc. You'll empty the tank in a few seconds. I could see having something like this and a larger higher cfm compressor to round out all use cases if you have the space for it. For small duty work, I'll never go back to one of those insanely loud pancake compressors. They get the job done, but try using one of those to do some work in an apartment for instance... The neighbors will hate you. 😂

Would this work for a framing nailer if you go slow to let it fill a bit between nails?

They make really cheap, small electric compressors ($20) that you can plug in a wall or car cigarette lighter ports that will inflate tires. I keep one in my vehicle and it's came in handy so many times inflating not just my own tires but others and even inflated a few tubes at the lake. Far better than lugging a compressor down the driveway.

Yes, its just a matter of how patient you'll have to be (very). Your framing nailer should have an average CFM rating, compare that to the compressor to get an idea of how much you'll be waiting. If your compressor has half the CFM rating as the nailer then expect to actively wait as much as you're actively working (roughly speaking).

Note: Because this is a 1 Gallon you will likely have to start your wait after only a few nails.

The analog display and seafoam color makes it look like something from the 1950s.

this is indeed a quiet compressor; great for certain applications knowing the limitations of its size / output.

I have one of these as well...also Makita. I honestly don't really use it anymore under normal circumstances. It's louder and takes much longer. If I needed to go pump up a friend's tire or something, I would totally go this route though. There are always many ways to skin a cat. Before I got either of these, I would just use my bicycle pump to inflate my car tires. I'd get a work out in the process, but hey...I'd also have properly inflated tires. Haha
