Way better in my opinion. Had many of both Motorola and Samsungs (Power, Plays, A15 A16 ect) in this price range and the Samsungs run way smoother even though in many cases the specs on paper are better on the Rolas.

Great deal for a backup phone, kept in drawer... There, in event your primary is lost, stolen, broken. At the end of the year, eBay the unlocked A16 for what you paid for it, or a couple dollars more.

BTW... I've read that the A16 gets 6 years of OS updates from Samsung.

It's easier to unlock the bootloaders in Moto G.
After flash to GSI roms, the brand is irrelevant. Moto vs Samsung, it's doesn't matter.
8GB vs 4GB are an important factor.

Quote from echip :
I think depends on which Moto G you're talking about:
1. Moto G Play - the slowest.
2. Moto G is a bit better than Moto G Play.
3. Moto G Power with 8GB is better than Moto G or G Play.
4. Moto G Stylus is a bit better than Moto G Power.

I would take the Moto G Power (8GB RAM) over the Galaxy A16 4GB RAM cuz the G Power is faster and smoother especially if you runs too many apps.

I have an Android phone with 2GB of RAM, and my girlfriend has one too, and neither of us has ever had an issue with enough RAM, including use of the camera! The brand of phone is the issue and NOT the RAM, in addition I wonder if you ever keep your phone clean of clutter. Go to XDA developers for help
The phone is 3 months old, and I frequently use the built in optimize tool. What are you talking about clutter, It came out of the box like this.

Every single time you try to open a second app with this phone it dumps the memory of the first one. It's especially frustrating with apps that have you sign in every time like banking apps, can't even multitask with my bank app and the calculator without having to sign back in again & again.

The fact that you can only use ONE app at a time on this phone is a RAM issue. There are no two ways about it. Which is a shame because the processor isn't bad, but it's wasted on the 4GB model. Sure the phone works and you can use the camera, but does someone really want to have this as their mobile phone experience? I think not.

Frankly, I'm not sure why you're trying to defend a phone that doesn't have enough RAM to use more than one app at a time. I'm not sure what you gain out of it. Either way I don't need help, I know what the issue is.

lol, there are many professional written and YT reviews on the phone and you are the first with over the top drama. The big name reviewers all give it an excellent rating. Maybe you should contact Samsung engineers and tell them your issues. I had it and it's a nice step up from the Moto G and Power.

I'm sure the 8GB version is fine... An "excellent rating" though? that's concerning since my 8 year old Note 9 performs significantly better than this.

Note is/was a great phone. But for me, the A15, A16, A25 (still use it) and the A54 are a step up from the Moto's I had. Every phone is a compromise.

This A16 was never permanent, just a bridge between my Note 9(It lost support before planned) and the S26 Ultra. I agree though, "Every phone is a compromise" nowadays. With this new "ultra" phone I lose a headphone jack, expandable storage, ergonomics, etc. I don't feel great about this "upgrade".

Is it possible to unlock this phone without buying extra time/minutes at the end of the year. It sounds like you need to wait 365 days to unlock the phone. So by the time it is eligible to be unlocked the service will already be out.

No one knows for sure or had any experience because TracFone just changed their unlock policy according to this link: https://www.tfwunlockpolicy.com/wps/portal/home

"For all cellphones Activated on or after January 20, 2026, the cellphone will be unlocked upon request after 365 days of paid and active service."

After 365 days, you will have to submit a request to unlock. But not sure if they will unlock for you since your number is no longer active after 1 year of service is over.

My favorite budget is the A25 and it has the jack. It does everything right. Paid $60-$70 with the minutes on a QVC deal with their new customer coupon. http://www.pcmag.com/reviews/sams...axy-a25-5g Nice step up from the Moto G Stylus and around $150-$160. on ebay.

Yep, the 3Dmark score increases from 641 to 1,385, going from the Moto G to this was enough for me. I do really wish that system RAM was something like a tiny board you could upgrade, though.

Is there anything to consider about this being renewed or refurbished?
Mine looks new. No marks/scratches & may be just old stock they needed to get rid of. As usual be prepared to go through numerous updates. After activation & transfer of plan to a better phone mine will probably just be used for reading.
