This is a great deal if it's a real ESEE. Ships and sold from Amazon so it's worth a risk in the event you need to return it.
I guess if it's true the real and the fake gets throw in the same bin it's the luck of the draw, though no telling when you might get a real replacement. I'm sure a lot of people have noticed they send used open box items too. Of course if you continue to get fakes that might be grounds for a complaint with some credit but it requires your time to chat with customer service so it goes back to whether it's worth your time. My guess is Amazon has some awareness they get fakes and discounting it temporarily is how they deal with it, it looks like this listing has had it at a normal price before but it's been trending downwards.

I bit and ordered one. Just going to return it if it's fake. I have a real one already but if I can score another for $36 then why not?

It would be my first, I mean it's kind of a matter of patience, you can return for refund or exchange and this way you lock in this price but maybe wait for their inventory to cycle.

I hope you'll enjoy it! The handle size took a while for me to get used to, but once it clicked I loved it.
There are multiple reddits, videos, etc. on what to look for, including: no choil drill hole, different blade sweep, and the same serial number on many of them. Suggest a Google if interested.
I have the 2 (micarta scales) and love it even if it's terrible at slicing.
I'm really surprised at the MSRP here, although I bought mine years ago so maybe I'm not familiar with current pricing. The 1 being nearly $100 is nuts though. Even the Amazon entry says its average price is more like 43.
Rufus says:
"Over the past 90 days, the https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001OEJUUM ESEE DT Izula Knife with Sheath, Black has ranged from $36.12 to $66.99. The current price is $36.12, which is the lowest price in this period - $16 lower than the typical price of $43.09."
Regardless, still slick. Just not as much as the post might suggest at first glance.

Looks like it was $38 recently, to me the fact that it did go back up to normal price is hopeful that there may be some genuine ESEEs in there in this context. https://slickdeals.net/f/19306092-esee-izula-dt-desert-tan-for-38-02
