I will be buying this! The last two car rentals we have had, only had C charging ports for phones.

Only 60W, keep in mind. I'd shoot for cables in the 140 to 240w range.

my wifes iphone 17 will only charge up to 20W. this cable has 40W too much. I wonder if iphone 18 will allow 240W charging.

The cable wattage rating is only how much it can carry. If the phone is only pulling 20W it's not an issue for a 40W cable.

The issue is where you get a device pulling more wattage than the cable can handle, which can cause the cable to heat up and (potentially) a fire.

Untrue. The wattage is negotiated and you'll just receive less power out.
