Community Reviews

The Dexley is a wide all mesh ergonomic chair that stands out for comfort, especially for taller or larger frames, with better armrests and lumbar support than the Hyken. Long term reports are strong on durability, with chairs still going after several years and Staples warranty support replacing broken parts quickly and for free. The main caveats are a short headrest for people over 6 feet, possible squeaks or armrest cracking over time, and some mesh or seat wear after years of use. It is a solid value at this sale price if the fit works for you.

Common Questions (4)

  • It can hold up for 5+ years with the mesh still in decent shape, and some owners report it still going strong after several years. Common wear points are the armrests, seat mesh, and reclining lock mechanism, which can loosen or crack over time.

  • Yes. A new Staples account can trigger an extra 15% off or a $15 off coupon, and some shoppers had to use a new email or even a different browser to make the pop-up appear. The code appears to be one-time use.

  • Yes. The chair reportedly has a 7-year warranty, and Staples support can send replacement parts such as a seat or other broken components after a short call. Keeping the white warranty tag on the seat cushion and having the order number helps.

  • The Dexley is the larger version and is better suited to taller or larger users, roughly 5'10" and above. The Hyken is the smaller option and tends to fit average or shorter people better.

Not a good chair.

After about 2 years the hole to that stops you from reclining has completely ovaled out so it no longer allows you to lock out the reclining feature. And I'm considered skinny by everyone. Only thing is I do use it 4 days a week at my home office.

Also, it squeaks horribly and yes I've tried using silicone on the areas will no avail.

Head rest is kinda short but don't use it often anyways.

My mesh has been fine. I saw another comment on that.

It has a 5 year warranty I believe but I don't have a paper receipt and office max or depot only keeps digital receipts online do 24 months so I just missed it....

Overall it functions ok other than above.

Does this chair get loud or start to creak and squeak after a few years? Maybe that's expecting too much at this price.
Yes. Mine has and lubricant hasn't helped.

Is it for tall people or for short people?
Slightly Shorter side. At 6'2" the headrest is too low by a couple inches

I wonder if you might have the other model. It's nearly identica but is built for a smaller framed person. People over 6' frequently complain about the headrest being too short.

To add to this I was also trying to find the additional discount.Incognito and a couple new accounts didn't work, but opening safari instead of chrome instantly gave me the pop up, and code is one time use it seems, so everybody would need to get their own. Total came out to $124!

Not a good chair.
there are better sub $200 all mesh chairs, the problem is they sell under so many chinese marketing variations to english consumers, that you never know what you get years later trying to buy one again. a few years ago i helped my bother pick and buy 3 different mesh chairs at 3 different months over a 1 year span. every time we picked a winner, it was already off the market and there was no referral equivalent. now so many cheap chairs are sold with fold out footrests which probably only makes sense if you are 5'2" 120lbs, so i just stopped risking nonames with no warranty from resellers or brands who all but vanish a year later. one of the chairs we really liked actually had an adjust forward and back seat which my brother loves, but it's hard to find that feature cheap on a large format all mesh chair anymore under $200. btw, i owned aeron mesh chair decades ago, and beyond high durability there was nothing special about them. so i don't expect much from this dexley chair, it's more about the model consistency and having a reseller who can stand behind it's product for a few years.

i am NOT recommending this $260usd link, i don't have time to comparison shop again;
https://www.amazon.com/PatioMage-...P7FM/?th=1
i use it merely to illustrate what i was looking for on my last 3 ~$150 chairs for my brother;
a. overall scale was euro body types, not small asia, so >300lbs, ~20" wide seat, etc.
b. split back so the back had a separate shoulder and lower back panel, not a band
c. adjustable seat DEPTH which matters for large trunk euro people with shorter legs
d. we tried to avoid gimmicks like foot rests, but these days you can't avoid silliness
e. recent reviews actually match the model being sold - often on amazon they do not.
f. photos that verify the ass seat is mesh, some listing obscure it - then you get foam.

final sad note; if you can afford to wait months, i would wait to buy a chair.
the oil shock we are witnessing will inevitably cause "demand destruction"
soon there will be a lot more inventory than any furniture channel can move.

I too have this chair for >5 years now.
My thoughts on this chair is that it is ok for the price but I couldn't replicate the hype or the rave about it from the SD community.
Mesh has held up so far, but I mainly sit on a cushion or a folded blanket as a butt pad. I am average, 170 lbs.
The base of the seat creaks/pops/whines a lot, depending on if I lean a little to one side or another, and this happened from day 1. The armrests on my chair, installed correctly, are a slightly different heights (yes, I know they are adjustable). Armrest have held up good, no cracks yet.
My star base cracked and the piston plunged through about 3 inches and it would scrape the floor when I sat on it. Once this happens, the piston is pretty much stuck or welded to the star base. I had to hacksaw + dremel out the plastic base to free the piston which was a huge pain in the buttocks.
If you do end up getting this chair and plan on keeping a while, I would suggest just getting a metal star base from the get go. I also ended up upgrading to some rollerblade style caster wheels for a smoother and quieter roll on my hardwood floor.

I have this chair. It's held up well for at least a couple years. Am sure the mesh will eventually give out, but it's only loosened slightly so pretty impressed with the quality.

I love this chair. I have been sitting in it for 5 years and it still looks great. No squeeks, no problems. I took off the headrest and arms, I don't need them...and I'd like to think it helps build my core without them (yeah I know that is stupid). Also, the headrest looked stange on video calls.
Do yourself a favor and purchase some rollerblade style wheels on amazon. Glides smoothly across wood floors. I purchsed another for my wife during a recent sale.
