There's a newer version of the extended battery case that uses AAA's instead of AA's > 5-year battery life vs. 10-year.

Amazon has it discounted as a "Big Spring Deal" for similar prices

I think there are many situations where I would give up size for battery life. I've used them for cars and trailers and this size would still be easily hide-able.

Is there an advantage to using lithium other than extended battery life?

Whats the point of this? Isn't AirTag supposed to be small so that you can put it in your luggage, hook it up to your keys, etc etc?

Why would you hook it up to your keys? Are people seriously misplacing their keys that much? The means to access & use their two typically most valuable possessions -- their home and their vehicle?
You'd be surprised. My next door neighbour (he's old) has airtags on his keys and his wallet.

It's nice to not have to worry about changing the battery frequently. I removed the AirTags' speakers and put one inside my bike frame and hid one in my truck. They work well.

Don't feed the troll (LavenderPickle7682). This clown shows up in every AirTag post and goes on a rant about valuable possessions and keeping track of things. It's some kind of weird affectation. God forbid someone mention putting one in a car or he'll demand their employer fires them.

They're supposed to last up to 10 years. They're not susceptible to temperature extremes, which may be a factor depending on where you live. They are not nearly as likely to leak as alkalines are.

I was excited to purchase this before but it absolutely did NOT hold down the air tag itself fyi. It was going to require me to tape it down to maintain the power contact points so I returned it. Great idea but very poorly designed.
The 3 I've deployed did not have this issue.
