I can't speak for these shoes but having done the hike years ago light to to medium trail running shoes are IMHO sufficient and recommended over heavier duty hiking boots and these shoes fit the bill.

I did it (and back) in Nike Frees. I think a comfortable trail runner is the way to go (but I can't comment on these specifically)

How good are these for pickleball / Padel ?
always get tennis/pickleball shoes for pickleball. running shoes wont get the job done. They lack support on the sides which is a must if you want to avoid knee injuries. The adidas barricades are inexpensive and works great. Speaking from experience.

If you're hiking straight through, I'd agree, trail running shoes are probably sufficient. But if you're carrying a pack/gear and spending the night at the bottom, I'd suggest decent hiking boots.

Trail runners are the most popular backpacking/hiking feetwear today. In the past everyone wore boots but not today. Footwear has come a long way. Less weight on your feet is equivalent to twice less the weight on your back.

Ive backpacked hundreds of miles wearing only trail runners. Ive worn Salomans and Saucony Peregriens on some extremely technical terrain. Boots dont dry and they are heavy.

I dont have experience with these particular Merells but I would definitely be wearing trail runners for your Grand Canyon Hike

Makes a lot of sense . Boots tend to be heavier for sure than shoes made out of foam

Not the rim to rim but did the South Rim hike in Hoka Speed goats. So yes, hiking boots not needed.

Anything similar to these that give ankle support? Essentially a super lightweight hiking boot.

Gents, ID.ME discount = on; can combine. Smookin' deal IMO. When I find a black run/walk shoe that fits, I go all in because they change the cut/style and they no longer fit just as well. Used to love Asics but these are better. Warning though, the slight elevated sole takes a few minutes to get used too.

edit: bumped to 3 pair

That's $82 a pair. Pretty Slick.

ID.ME kicks you to Merrel - https://shop.id.me/stores/10110-merrell-us
i could not get my id.me discount to apply (first responder / leo).. could only get the one above to apply
Signed into merrel through idme and everytime i went to click on the first responder promo code area it would act like a refresh but never would populate the field.

Man, I messed up. The direct deal with the coupon is a better deal! Sorry about that. Trying to cancel my order and re-order.
