When you activate this new phone purchase, there is an option to choose either port in a new number, or activate this phone for an existing number already serviced by TracFone. For the latter option, it disables my old SIM card and enables the number to run on this new phone + sim card combo, and adds an one whole year of service expiration date (e.g. from end of 2027 to end of 2028), in addition to the available credit units (minutes, SMS counts, data). And since I started to use this phone in early 2026, it will automatically unlock in early 2027.

Never swap sim from another phone. TracFone is very anal about attaching a SIM card to the phone it came in. You could lose service one day bc they consider SIM swap against their terms. To change phones, you need to activate a nEW BYOP SIM..

I purchased one of these last year. All true about activating with your existing account and service stacks. Tracfone used to automatically unlock after 2 months which was great but recently changed to 12 months on request which is not so good. Once unlocked the phone can be used with ESIM or PSIM from a different provider and I have never had an issue swapping a Tracfone PSIM to another unlocked phone.

Could you get the bootloader unlocked in that Samsung, after the 1st year?
lineage or GSI are much better than the stock.

Pay attention to the current delivery date. It's showing mid/ late April for me. I grabbed this deal a couple weeks ago from a post on SD. The phone looks like new. Activated just fine, but I turned the SIM off. Got it to load it up with downloaded books and videos via WiFi. These are expandable to either 1TB or 1.5TB with a micro sd card, which was a selling point for me and something my iPhones can't do. It's working well for my usage.

I'm still using an A15 on WiFi because the screen is good and the battery life.

You don't have to wait until the end of your service. If you activate now, it will just add a year to the expiration date, so your new expiration will be June 2027. Since there have been some complaints about the plan not being added to the SIM, you should probably activate during the return window.

FYI, you have up to a year after the date of purchase to activate the plan. That means you can buy two of these and use one now and the second one immediately after the first plan ends.

It's not a good idea to wait to activate - if there's any problem with activation of plan it will be too late to return.
